Maca Root... and there are "female PMS Herbal Supplements" with a mix of other things that are supposed to help with all of this. I have also researched L-Tyrosine and 5-HTP, and I believe there have some possible benefits to look into. I have been reading a book called, "The Mood Cure." Check it out.

I get sore throat and sinus pressure a week before my period too. I take generic Claritin (loratidine) and within a couple of hours, I feel so much better. I take it daily till my period arrives; it's a life saver!

I heard that the immune system can weaken during or right before or after your period so that could be why sensitivity and allergies occur. Eating lots of healthy foods is especially important during that time.

That's true! When we ovulate, our immune system "lowers its defenses" so our system doesn't kill sperm.

I have exactly the same sinusitis-like symptoms described by so many sisters-in-suffering here. In my case, it is alternating periods, so every two months, typically the 2 or 3-days of unproductive misery often mentioned here.

It is hard to express how frustrating and disappointing I have been by doctors (including female doctors) telling me it is stress-related and even sometimes proscribing placebo pain relievers - I think everyone who posted here realizes how cruel such a treatment is. My biggest hope is that mainstream doctors will read this and finally stop telling us that it is "just stress", try yoga and stop eating chocolate! At least the more honest doctors use the "we understand so little about migraine" line.

Doctors, please come up with a name for this condition that truly reflects the intense debilitating pain suffered and does not include the word premenstrual or migraine so that we can give a good response to our employers about why we have to miss work.

I also having sinus infection like symptoms along with my typical menstrual cycle. It has progressively gotten worse to the point that I am missing work and my face swells up. I have noticed that it typically coincides with some sort of heavy cleaning and or yard work. For a long time I hoped the symptoms are just allergies and would go away but they have progressively gotten worse. I have been to the doctor and they give me decongestants and send me off. So I stopped going. After reading this site I can’t help but think if this many men were getting this ill six or more times a year, more research would be happening on the topic.

Good point! Need more research and emphasis on what women suffer through during menses. It impacts normal life more than people may think. The public and workforce should be educated on just how much it can affect daily life when it occurs.
