I get a sinus headache typically 3 days before my period starts. Pseudophedrine works the best. Just have to make sure you take it right at the onset of your head pain. If I wait too long, I end up reaching for Excedrin Migraine. I've found this medicine does relieve the pain also.

I am glad I am not alone, I too have had the headaches since my periods started. I have in the last 2 years been drinking Ginger tea and it really helps, as it helps to reduce inflamation, even helps with cramps. Hope this brings relief to you too.

Anyone considered TMJ causing both the headaches and sinus probs? TMJ is very common and jaw clenching grinding and jutting is more extreme during the tention that comes just before a period.

YES! I have TMJ, and that is contributing to both my migraines/tension headaches/sinus probs. Very good point, thanks!

I am finding the same thing except mine luckily are not migraines. I feel like im getting sick or a sinus infection a day or two before period and first few days of cycle. To understand this im turning to my chinese TCM dr acupuncturist. I think the extra flow of blood and overall fluids inbody (water bloating) and an increase in bodily fluids mucus secretions is what we are experiencing. Then that causes headache and other symptoms. Excess yin flowing in our bodies.

I also get sinus related headaches that start before my period and stick around the first few days of it. I take decongestants! My husband said that the headaches must be vascular if a decongestant works (he has a medical background). I asked my OB/Gyn about it and she basically shrugged and said, "what ever works." So I now take decongestants preventatively as soon as I get the headache I start and I continue taking them for about 3 days.

Thank you all - I don't feel like I'm going mad. For years Ive suffered with these headaches. Pain under eyes, across the forehead, down one side of the neck and very tight neck and shoulder muscles. I used to put it down to strained neck/shoulder muscle. It's only been in the past 6 months that I, begrudgingly, put a connection to my monthly cycle... so I started tracking the pain and my cycle.. headaches start about 4-5 before the start of my cycle and I don't remember it ever lasting more than 3 days. Reading these posts have been helpful. I'm going to try the evening primrose that was suggested. My sister suggested codis (codeine/aspirin) and horseradish and garlic... I'll save the codis for when the pain hits before it takes hold but the primrose and horseradish I will try as a daily supplement and see if that works. Have not yet been to the dr as it's only been tonight that I figured out what was going on - for the first time I had to leave work early (something I've never done I've always just sucked it up) and now I've been stuck on the lounge and even had a sleep and I never sleep during the day. I wish everyone good luck in finding a remedy

I have also been suffering from not only sinus issues before my period but also allergies and asthma. I get hives on my hands and my eyes itch so bad and as soon as my period the allergies start to ease off and my sinuses clear. I was diagnosed as having a rathkes cleft cyst on the pituitary gland. I am not sure if it is possible for the cyst to enlarge before my period then shrink causing the sinus issues?

I am so happy to I came across this. I have always had migraines but usually triggered by allergies and sinus but for the last year I have had three or more days of migraines starting the first day of my period. I thought it was the weather but stayed consistent every month. I sure hope a solution can be found. Thanks for sharing. I don't feel alone.

Hey Everyone. I've been dealing with this for over 30yrs before I made the connection between sinuses and my menstral misery about 3 years ago when my daughter at the age of 21 begin suffering from Headaches, drainage, lots of nausea. I took OTC sinus for headache/pressure with 2 excedrin when I felt the headache and nausea coming and surprisingly it never came. I realized that so I took these meds every morning and evening during my cycle and I don't get the headaches any more. I carry these med in my handbag at all times. The catch is you need to take them as soon as you get that feeling. It's best that you not wait until you have a full blown migraine it may take longer to work. Tip. Walmart has a painkiller in a green bottle right next to the excedrin that works the same if not better than the excedrin. A bottle of 24 is only 94cents
