I get sinus problems too with my period. I absolutely hate it. It makes life unbearable when it's that time of the month plus dealing with pms on top of it. My allergy specialist said that it must be hormones and my primary doctor said to try some Aleve for when it starts. I went off of the pill in November and he said that it could be from that. The Aleve hasn't done a whole lot. I'm really tired of dealing with it because when my husband and I go out it makes it hard to have fun and it's hard to be around my kids because of the noise.I wish I knew what would cure it.

Same here, as soon as my period starts the face/sinus headache begins and lasts a few days. Even my teeth hurt. It's usually worse on the left side. And I've had bouts of nausea.

I too have the same issues, which are getting worse with each period. I've been doing the supplements, exercise, and diet and no relief. It's causing me to miss a day of work each month. I'm going to journal it to keep track. I did read in an article that sprouted broccoli helps keep the lining thinner. The thicker the lining is that we shed, the worse the period symptoms will be. ( look up sprouted broccoli/period for better info.) It has to be hormone related and some form of inflammation being caused by the hormones, because I get the same thing every time. My sinuses plug (inflammation). My head, neck, eyes, ears, and shoulders hurt to where I'm worthless (no one has time for that) If I take the inflammation dose of ibuprofen plus use a message device that shakes up my sinuses causing me to sneeze, I can feel it start to loosen up (temporary relief). Also adding excedrin, nasal sprays, Neil med nose irrigation, sudifed, and Aleve sinus through my attempts to be functional. (Nothing "really" works) Until about the 3rd-4th day after the symptoms start I finally get some relief ( probably from the hormones settling down). The broccoli sprouts may be tough because there is only so much you can do with them. I have never taken birth control and I really don't want to. There has got to be a way to regulate hormones through diet.

What has really been helping me find relief from dry nasal sinuses is 2 things: 1) Sinu Orega nose spray (found in health store or online); and 2) Ponaris ointment (found online). I apply the Ponaris with a q-tip to the inside linings of my nose (be careful!) I honestly cannot live without these products. They help me make it through the day during the monthly period/inflamed-sinus time, and even through the change of seasons when my sinuses are irritated from that. Had to post about them because they have done me so much good. Good luck to all of us!

I am encouraged to read your post today (that you wrote over a year ago :) You wrote regarding taking Evening Primrose to relieve your PMS headaches. I used to take Evening Primrose, but in a gel capsule form (and couldn't decide if it truly helped). I would like to know if it still the case that the oil relieves your headaches. If so, the brand and milligrams that you use! I, too, get these headaches/migraines every month. I am so tired of it. Thank you for your reply.

Hello there! A question for you: do your ears "plug up" as well?

The same thing happens to me. I though that it was allergies and would take some allergy medicine for a few days. But then I noticed the pattern. I can't stand being sick every month!

My doctor told me we get these migraines/sinus headaches a few days or weeks out from our period because of the drop in our hormones. Women get these debilitating headaches due to hormone changes. They suggest low dose birth control but ONLY IF you do not have these headaches outside of your period because adding hormones can spike the headaches. My doctor told me to start tracking my period and to start taking ibuprofen regularly 4 days before my period is due to start (of course this was a diagnosis for myself and I'm not a doctor. Just speaking for how they helped my personal case) and also take Excerdrin Migraine in conjunction with the ibuprofen. Please see your doctor and maybe suggest if this is an option for you

I cant believe it took this many years for someone to finally post the obvious response to so many woman. As a long time hormone headach / migraine sufferer; it is clear doctors do not have a handle on hormone management for woman or what to fo about the resulting issues the imbalances cause. Just look at HRT (hormone replacement therapy)! Headaches, around your period (especially regular recurrent) ARE Hormone related. Even those appearing to feel like sinus headaches are clearly directly related to hormones and NOT from swelling. Although some may see additional side effects from water retention; any kind of migraine can trigger the nerves around your face- eyes, cheecks to hurt and mask as sinus pain. However, be careful about treating similarly or ignoring a migraine. You wont see results. In rhe meantime, keep tracking and KEEP pushing you doctor so that maybe one day there will be some progress in this area. Good luck everyone.

I have been suffering from migraines for several years now but mine always seem to come at the end of my cycle and are atleast 3 days. I have migraine meds that work if I take them at the onset but usually it will come back the next day. The medicine is so powerful itself that it makes me sick too. My headaches have become more dull over the years, not the constant throbbing pain that I used to feel but the nausea has gotten worse. It feels like its sinus related. My entire head feels like it is compressed and its a dull nauseating pain. In 2011 I had the paraguard iud inserted for birth control and since then it seems like my headaches have become more frequent. I am considering having it removed since it is only good for 10 years and see if it helps. I have been getting acupuncture to treat sciatica and was telling the lady about my headaches so she has been applying some needles to help treat them too. So far no improvement with the headaches but my back is getting better. I have only had a few treatments but she did suggest evening primrose and chasteberry supplements to help with emotional/hormonal changes associated with your menstrual cycle. I just started taking them but she says it generally takes about 3 mths to start seeing results.
