hi, I'm 55 years old and about two months ago I started having classical symptoms of prostatis. I had pain in my lower abdomen, in the scrotum and in my penis, had trouble urinating and pain while ejaculating. I went to my doctor and he diagnosed me with prostatis after some tests and urine samples. He gave me these antibiotics, told me to take them and sent me home. Soon the symptoms have disappeared and he said that I was cured. Lately the symptoms started reoccurring, could this be another outbrake of prostatis or is this some other disease?

Whether this is another case of prostatis or not is left for your doctor to decide and if you want to get a more precise diagnosis you will have to talk to him. If the symptoms that you are experiencing now are similar to those you were experiencing before it is possible that prostatis has returned. In fact it probably was never gone, only the symptoms you were feeling were gone and you and your doctor thought it was cured. This might be the case of chronic prostatis that is slightly harder to treat than the acute one you had. The acute prostatis that you had two months probably was never cured and caused this chronic prostatis. This happens because most antibiotics don’t penetrate prostate enough so the concentrations of the antibiotics are not enough to kill all the bacteria in every part of the prostate. The disease and its symptoms disappear for a while and when the immune system becomes weaker or if the prostate is irritated it returns again. The treatment of chronic prostatis is a very long process that can take up to six months. You should have another appointment at your doctor’s office, have him prescribe you some more penetrating antibiotics that will fight the infection. He should also check to see if you have prostatic stones because they can be a center for developing prostatis. In any case your doctor should have the last call on this and it is very important that you follow his advice. Good luck with this, hope that you will get better.
