I guess I'm not the only one; good to know. My period was like a week late and then I got it. But now it has been going on for 4 weeks straight I am worried because I read that one can have extended bleeding after a miscarriage. I went off the pill a few months ago because I no longer have health insurance. I would like to see a gyno but I can't afford the bill. I don't think it's very serious but I would like to known how to make it stop. It is causing a strain on my relationship with my long time life partner.

I am 18 years old. Since around December of 2007 I have had a constant period with heavy and light clotting. In January I had the implanon put in (a 3 year birth control that only projects progesteron, no estrogen). I have though my estrogen levels may be too high because every other bc I take my body rejects. I knew the prolonged period wasn't because of the implanon because it had started the beginning of Dec.
Occassionly I would have a couple days off, but then it would start again for another two to three months. For the past couple of months my period has become "reversed". I have a period for three weeks, and then I'm off for about 3-7 days. I started recording the data at the beginning of July.
I wonder if the ones who do have a small break between are the same way as me. I have been planning on seeing a doctor, but I just moved, so I haven't heard/found a good gyno. I've had my iron levels checked several times this past year, and nothing has appeared abnormal. If anyone knows anything OTC that I can take, including herbs, please tell. I am sure all of us would appreciate it.

I am in some ways relieved to come across this forum as I have been experiencing a day or two of very heavy bleeding, then light spotting or bleeding and then out of the blue, its very heavy again for the last month and half. I also have PCOS so I dont know if this is a causing factor..or one of the factors.
I also feel nauseous and have pain and cramps.
I was on my way to an interview,, when all of a sudden I felt it. It was the worst experience because I wasnt prepared and jes felt a gush...had to cancel my interview and went home and began crying because I got so scared but was also frustrated cause I felt like I had no control over my body.
I am gonig to my doctor tomorrow and I hope everything is ok - they will probably do an ultrasound...
Something similar happened to me years ago where I had a heavy period for about 15-17 days and it was very painful...however I was very stressed out during that time and as soon as the stress left, my period stopped just like that..from very heavy bleeding to nothing!
I think my current situation may be somewhat due to stress as I am facing a lot of it at work.

I was put on the pill when I was about 14 due to HEAVY bleeding with cramps so bad that I'd spend 7-10 days curled up in the fetal position doing nothing. Years later (2007 to be exact), while explaining this to a doctor, they suggested I see an endcrinologist (hormone specialist) and it turns out I have Polycyctic Ovary Syndrome. It just so happens that treatment for PCOS is birth control pills, so they told me to skip the sugar pills and just keep taking the real doses every day. I was doing great - I would only get my cycle once every 2 months for 3-5 days with few cramps, and all was well.
Except this year I've started bleeding a LOT. A first it was only after sex, but it would last for days or even like a week and a half. Now, I've been bleeding for the last 6 or 7 weeks straight with at most 10 hours of peace throughout. And (I'm sorry to be graphic) but it changes colors and consistency constantly. Sometimes it's red, sometime it's orange-ish, sometimes it's a brownish/blackish color. Sometimes it's thin like a normal bleed, and other times it's thick (almost like tomato sauce thick), and sometimes I just drop clots or mucus looking stuff.
My OB/GYN said it's from not having a steady period and that I should have 1 every 2 months, but I already was BEFORE all of this, but she claims it's "normal" for women who continually take the pill. My endocrinologist did some blood work, but I haven't heard anything back, and she said it MIGHT be too much estrogen, so she switched me from Yasmin to Yaz (same progestrone, less estrogen), but it doesn't appear to be getting any better, and I can't have sex, and I had to stop using tampons 'cause I was using them so often that I was getting yeast infections and bacterial infections too.
I can't keep going on like this, but no one seems to really have an answer for why this is happening (at least not one that really makes any sense). I don't know what to do, because I'm sick enough as it is, and half my medical problems are already mysteries to the doctors, so I can't take another "we don't know" from them, especially since it's ruining the one good thing I have going for me right now - my relationship. Not to say he will leave me if I don't sleep with him, but rather the lack of intimacy makes us both feel unhappy because we want to be together but can't because it hurts to when I'm bleeding (and if anyone is thinking to suggest that I give oral for intimacy, I have a condition in my jaw currently, so I couldn't if I wanted to without agonizing pain). If anyone's even got a CLUE, please help me.

Get a female OB/GYN and get a pap smear. I know they're embarrassing and they hurt the first time, but after a couple of them, it's not that bad. And speaking from the experience of someone who used to not only bleed heavy, but cramp badly, it is very worth the few minutes of awkwardness.

Get a pap smear. No modest 14 year old wants one, but you'll eventually have to if you want to have children, and trust me, your vagina looks better now than it ever will again, so there's no reason to be shy.

go to the papsmear anyways, you could have something that needs to be fixed. they reallly aren't that bad, it doesn't hurt or anything. and the doctor does that for a living, so don't feel embarrassed

:$ Hi every one iv'e been on my cycle for two months straight and it's very light.. at first i thought it was pregnancy but den again wen i looked it up it was irregular cycles.. then it could have been chlamidia not treated but that wasn't it either so i went to the doctor and he said it's normal to have irregular cycles like this...but im still kind of unsure. >:( ! :-S

ok well i sort of have the same problem. im overweight so idk if that has anything to do with it but this started about a year ago, i would get my period for 2 weeks straight very light and then a couple months later i lost 10 pounds and it went back to normal for that week, it was heavy like excessivly and then it went back to the same thing again. and right now this is a month that ive been on my period and im really scared because i dont know what to do and i cant go to my mom because she'll flip out on me and acuse me of having sex, which i have had before but i was protected. so i dont know if theres a hormone imbalance or if theres something seriously wrong with me but if anyone knows id really like help... i want to hitch a ride to Planned Parenthood so maybe they can help me. but i have no one to bring me so im stuck there. but if you can help me please email me at
