According to Dr. Theresa Dale, author and naturopathic physician, our bodies have the ability to produce all of the hormones they need for as long as we live. When the ovaries shut down after menopause, the adrenal glands take over the production of producing progesterone and other hormones. The key is a healthy endocrine system. Lifestyle changes may be necessary to support endocrine functioning and, therefore, raise progesterone levels to normal. Revamping your diet by eliminating all processed foods, avoiding alcohol, caffeine and food preservatives and eating a 70 percent raw diet is a great start. Taking the time to exercise and deal with emotional issues through meditation or guided relaxation techniques will help decrease stress on the adrenals, thus affecting the production of progesterone. In addition, avoiding unnecessary medications and environmental toxins is important for a healthy endocrine system.

So i'm 17, about to be 18 in a couple weeks. I've had my period since i was 11 and its been pretty normal, light at the beginning, heavier the 2-4th day and light again on the 5th and over the 6th day.. It happened Every 28 days or so.. miss a month here or there.. then back on track.. I misscarried when i was 14.. and my period went back to "my normal".. I took the day after pill for the first time in December of '09, and my period was still normal.. up until August 2010. I just had moved away 600 miles from my home to college and had my period during the move. It was normal that time and only lasted about 2 days into me living in my new dorm.
I hadn't had my period is september, or october, or november.. But in December of 2010.. on the 2nd to be exactly i noticed brownish discharge.. which was my normal sign of me starting my period.. So to be safe and not wanting to leak throughout my busy day, i put a tampon on and went about my day.. I ended up starting my period but it was abnormally light and lasted about 9 days. So till the 11th of December.
Then on January 1st of 2011, i started my period again.. This time it is abnormally heavy.. extremely heavy.. To the point where i wear a tampon and a maxi pad and change them every 3 hours, because they are both pretty soaked.
I don't know if it's like this because i hadn't had it in a few months and last month was more so super light, or if there is something else wrong.
I should mention that i have milky discharge from my right nipple and that's been going on for about 2 months now.. I went to my gyno and they can find nothing wrong.. They said it can be normal.
So i don't know if it all ties together or what… But i'm freaking out and can't see a doctor until sometime tomorrow..
PLEASE HELP!

When the lining of the uterus grows into the wall of the uterus, the condition is called adenomyosis. Normally, when the endometrium sheds during a menstrual period the blood is free to drain out through the cervix. When the lining goes into the muscle some of the blood may be trapped. When extensive, this may cause severe cramps and heavy bleeding. This can cause the walls of the uterus to thicken and the uterus to become enlarged. Often an enlarged uterus from adenomyosis is misdiagnosed as being from fibroids. Since the treatment of adenomyosis may be different from fibroids, this common error can lead to inappropriate treatment. Usually ultrasound can tell whether a uterus is enlarged from fibroids or from adenomyosis.
In my case we could only see a very small Fibroid.
