For as long as I can remember, I've always had random gagging attacks and dry heaving. Usually it's when I eat too much, don't eat a lot, sometimes when I'm super nervous/stressed out, and sometimes just out of nowhere. I get nauseous really easily in the car, but even then, it doesn't explain why I have them when I'm sitting down or standing up or doing work. I know why I get them when I eat too much/not a lot, but that doesn't explain the next two. I've never really searched it up or wondered why until today. I read that it may by allergies or type of anxiety attack but I don't have a history of anxiety, nor does my family, and I'm not bulimic or ever had an eating disorder. I'm only allergic to certain types of grasses but then it wouldn't explain the times when I'm sitting in a room doing work, nowhere near grass or anything.

Usually when it happens, I get a tingle in my throat and I start to gag. Sometimes I get watery eyes and a short runny nose and this usually happens maybe two or three times a day. I've never really thought this would be something to go to the doctor for, but a lot of people have started to worry that I may be pregnant (No, I'm not.) or throw up. It's getting really annoying and I hate having to explain to people that it's just this gag reflex thing I have and they become all exasperated and tell me that I should have an answer. Before I go to the doctors, I want to see what everyone else has to say about this. I saw a few topics about the same thing, but this usually occurred because of stress and didn't happen until a few years ago for them, but I've had it since forever and I was wondering if it was some kind of disorder or just something random, quirky thing that people just have.

Hello cheesemin,

I understand your frustration. I have been dealing with some bad allergies and it's really annoying. There might not be an explanation for why you get allergies when you are sitting in your room. But i remember it happening to myself as well. I am allergic to grass, ragweed and would be just sitting in my room and my eyes would get watery , nose would start to tingle, and i would start sneezing like crazy.

I just think that your just allergic. Maybe you should do another allergy test to see whether you are allergic to something else like dust?

Are you drinking any pills like Flonidan (Antihistamins), those do help a lot.

Hope to hear from you soon.
