How long should I keep waiting for my rectovaginal fistula to heal?

I've had it for a bit over a year. When I passed my 3 month mark, I had 1 failed surgery. We tried to replace the stitches that fell out, but it didn't save it. This surgeon taught me that if it doesn't heal within 3 months, it's not likely to heal.

Six months later, I am now seeing a surgeon in a different state, and she told me that 3 months is the minimum time it could heal, and can heal much later.

I have surgery again + stoma bag in just five days. I'm so scared that I feel my symptoms are diminishing. I can't tell if it's psychological or not. Air and mucus is still present, but I feel that the passage of stool is slowing.

I am now lost, because I don't know if I still have a chance at healing naturally. I was always informed that the chance has passed, but this new surgeon is telling me that it can still heal naturally.

Surgery is in 5 days and I'm worried that I'm making a mistake.

How long can an RVF take to heal on its own?
I have seen mine heal after many months. The body can do wonderful things. Did you have success with the surgery?
