wow!! i def feel better knowing i am not alone in this struggle...just sucks cos I don't have

health insurance, and i've dealt with Dr's and mysterious afflictions before. I must say the

two do not go hand in hand. when all is said and done they'l just say your crazy..(lol)

Ive had this problem for a little over 3 yrs. Started with tiny white bumps(forbyce spots) and

a constant urge to lick my lips. I  fought it for awhile eating well, working out, supposed

cureZone cure all remedies. (callodial silver, zapper, ect.) didn't bother with dr's because of

a loss of faith in the entire healthcare system and their abbillites to diagnose and treat.

All these attempts at curing myself Im sorry to say only helped in suppressing the problem.

No cure as of yet. :(  I'm planing on seeing a doctor soon and going through  the whole RUNAROUND

again. Though I fear only in vain.

I just had a few questions for all of you. do any of you have any other symptoms other than

the whole lip thing? Itching around the body, or genital area? I've def thought it has been

an std but all my test's come back negative...??????

Sooo whatever it is..fungus,bacteria,virus,prion err whateva tha F**k else science can supposedly

identify I hope we find relief SOON.....   Just glad we are not alone in our suffering... and of course

if anybody finds a Cure or some glimmer of hope please do share.........

Sincerely: Sum Pissed Off Dude........................

I have had the recurring lip problem 3x since May of 2012. Never received any meaningful diagnoses, though most Drs tried to be helpful. It is a problem, not the lips per se, the redness surrounding the lip area. And, of course the dry craked areas in the corners of the outer lip area. Never sems to get a good look when the affliction occurs because I'm overseas a lot. BUT, I went to a Dr in Saudi Arabia and he prescribed Elica tm for Mometasone Furoate 0.1% w/w.In just a few days the lips cleared up. Back in the states, Dr said didn't have the same formula? Go figure. Atleast I have something that seems to work, just glad I haven't been afflicted since November 2012. So, somebody needs to figure out why mometasone furoate isn't available in the US.

This started for me about a month ago. 2 weeks in I knew it was more than chapped lips. so I looked around online and saw that some on this board have used topical nystatin with success. Since that is only available by Rx, I started using Monistat (miconazole) cream about 4 times a day preceded by hydrogen peroxide wash. Within 3 days it was nearly gone. I discontinued the miconazole and it came back. I then switched to clotrimazole cream (generic Lotrimin jock itch cream) after hydrogen peroxide. I have avoided ChapStick as much as possible and left my lips dry nearly all day. It has been 3 days and it is nearly gone again. I plan to maintain treatment for about 2 weeks. Fungal infections are known to linger and require prolonged treatment. If it returns again I may request an oral antifungal from my dermatologist. So far I have not seen a doctor since this OTC remedy has been working. Good luck. Make sure to use the H2O2 before the cream to dry it out and sterilize the area a bit.

Just curious if any males are having this problem...there are some distinctly female posters but not sure about if there are males also.

Yes. I think there are a number of men who have posted on here as well. To follow up on my treatment, it has been 8 days using H2O2 washes of the corners of my mouth and lips followed by application of OTC antifungal cream (clotrimazole). Redness 100% gone, burning 100% gone, cracks 100% gone, but my lips are still chapped. I started applying Carmex 2 days ago to improve the chapping and it is improving. I didn't want to apply it before the infection was under control. I will continue the clotrimazole for one more week.

I found this forum today and it prompted me to to go the urgent care since it's a Sunday morning, and my diagnosis was impetigo- which is a combination of strep and staph that is just living in my body now. All of the symptoms and issues described are just like mine. It's a bacterial infection, and I was prescribed prednisone and azithromycin. If your doctor won't believe it's more than chapped lips, find another one who will listen. I spent three months last year miserable because a dermatologist wouldn't treat it as anything more.

When the pain from something wakes you up from sleep, it's time to find a better doctor. Best wishes to everyone

Mine started out as chapped lips, then they started peeling and burning, mostly around the rim of my lips, then one morning I woke up with swollen lips(they were huge!), then more burning and cracking, and the very inside of my lips and cheeks felt raw, and there was a small bump(not a canker, more like swollen) in the skin under my tongue too......that is when I tried the cortisone and then the lavender.....Amazing results with the lavender!. ......at first my dr looked at me and said that it was some type of dermatitis ( a form of eczema)  A lot of these diagnosis are just guesses.......so my doctor gave me a topical vasaline based cortisone for it.  I used it and it did help, but you can not use it too much or your skin will suffer.  So, I thought I would try something else.  I already knew that lavender is a natural antibiotic, so I put a couple of drops in some Vaseline,  mixed it up and used that on my lips.  WOW, I used it for 1 day and I woke up the next morning and it was almost all cleared up! It was amazing.  I could finally smile without my mouth cracking  :)

Just thought I would share something that worked for me....and I hope it works for you too  :)

I had this for ages no dr ever helped me they gave me coldsore creams, steroids, blistex which actually made it worse. I would wake up in the morning and would feel as if I had raw lips they would burn if I ate pretty much anything and when I put them together they would feel wet it was horrible. I tried Lucas paw paw cream and it did the trick, not sure if they are gone for good but when they do reappear it gets rid of it within the day so it's not a big deal anymore

I too have been experiencing these same dry lip symptoms. It started about 3 weeks ago. I woke up and my top lip was numb and the lining of my lips were red and itchy (almost like someone took a red lip liner pencil and traced the outline of my lips). As the days followed my lips became extremely chapped and burned like I stayed out in the sun and got severe sunburn. It hurt to open my mouth, talk, or smile. I don't have health insurance so I wanted to try everything and anything before I spent money I don't have. I cut down on eating spicy foods and that took some redness out. I've tried Blistex medicated, Vaseline, and Carmex, but these only relieve the dryness for short periods of time. I need to reapply every 20 min. My lips aren't peeling anymore but they are still very "tight" when I try to smile. It's a very weird feeling. I still have the red outline on my lips too but the severeness is gone. I don't know if their on there way to being healed completely or if this is as good as it gets. I'll try the Lavender someone mentioned before. I just want my lips back to normal.

Mine occurs with a change of season, lasts for 1 week then disappears. I have dry lips regardless. But man when that week comes around I just wanna hide. I looked up Cheilitis and some of the pictures that I saw....whoowee....Thank God mines not that bad...Burns like hell and I can't smile but hardly noticeable when use medicated lip balm. I hope they find a cure soon cause this sh*t is annoying.

i had the same thing as well, it started at the bottom of my lip it looked like dry spot and i would peel the skin off and keep lip gloss on it, only to find out it wasn't just dead skin after i spread it all over my lips by using the lip gloss, my lips broke out in like blisters it kinda looked like a rash or ringworm so i started using this fungal cream i got from the doctor a long time ago.it cleared the blisters up but my lips still fult funny they where really dry and tight like i had a extra layer of skin and it was smothering my lips, and it got worse one day they was red and swollen burning and the blisters where back so i went to the doc and she gave me some cream that's uses for yeast infections and some pills i took the for 2weeks and my blister was gone but i still had the extra layer of skin the swelling and burning and the med started making my lips turn black like i had on black lip stick, so i stop and started using carmax and it didnt worsen my condition and it helped with my burnin but my lips still was a lil swollen, and one of my clients started telling me about braggs apple cider vinegar and how she took it 3 times a day to loose weight 2 tablespoons of acv and 1 tablespoons of raw honey 3 times a day in 2onces of water i started doing it for weight lost but i notice my lips where getting better so i researched it and it could also be use for fungal infections of any kind even yeast infections, i put it on my lips and it burn so i just continued taking it by mouth and within the first week my swelling was gone and my color was coming back in and the extra skin feeling was gone, i still use the carmax as a moisteriser and and this is my second week taking it and my lips are almost completely back to to normal thanks to acv and a whole lot of praying

Tge cracks on the side of my mouth healed after 1 week treatment with clotrimazole cream OTC. I continued treatment for an extra week. It was gone for a week then returned. I restarted clottimazole since it worked once. It did not heal as fast but slowly improved over 2 weeks but wouldn't go away. Doctor then prescribed oral fluconazole (antifungal). No help, so I suspected cause was actually bacterial. Had some Bactroban laying around. Used it and resolved condition in 2 days. Continued treatment 1 week. No recurrence for last month. Google search turned up that clotrimazole has some mild antibacterial effect. I suspect this is why it helped but could not irradicate the bugs.
