I think ethnicity has something to do with it...Although Asians are known to get "flushed", I feel Irish/German ethnicities do too.  OUr fair skin and known drinking abilities may have taken a toll on us.  Don't shoot foen this possibility because your not asian.   Anyone with the inability to break down the toxin(s) in alcohol can be affected.

Hi there, the product "goodhealth" you mentioned in your post seems exactly what I need! Can you give me any more info about it (e.g., is that the product name or company name? who manufactures it? have you seen it online?) A thousand thanks and wish you good health!!

The same thing happens to me when I drink alcohol. First, my ears will feel hot and then my skin will start to flush in a splotchy fashion and my heartbeat starts racing. I have noticed, in my case, that this only happens when I am dehydrated. If I drink plenty of water before and while I drink alcohol, I do not have any of the symptoms. Has anyone else noticed the same? And if so, has anyone heard anything more from a doctor?

Im only 16 and I go out to highschool parties but lately I hav ehad terrible anxiety which came from my face and neck randomly turning red and it frightened me and when people would ask over and over and people were like "hey man are you alright bro!?" and some would be loud and freak out about it which made it worse to the point where I would feel like im having a panic attack. I dont go to parties anymore now cause everytime I drink liquor my face turns red which is followed by my neck and then my chest sometimes my arms start even turning red. tonight it happened when I had a few glasses of vodka and it scared me so bad I looked this upa nd found this blog but this blog helped me realize alot of people have this. and that makes it so much better just to know that im not alone. :) thanks for the posts and stuff this makes me feel much better.

I am 50 and its happened my whole life! It is fair skin although I get quite tan. It happens whenever I drink alcohol, or get emotional, either angry, happy or sad. It is the blood rushing to my head! My neck gets red and my chest and then goes up to my face, which gets red. Someone will mention it and it gets worse as it is sort of a BLUSH. My Dr told me this many years ago! I try not to wear open collar when I am in these predicaments. Interesting you guys take a pill, not sure I really care what people think. You will be ok! :D

Hi there, I have this same problem of really defined patchy red rash on the face, neck and chest and rapid heart. I havenot found a definitive cause, cure or explanation as to why this happens or found out any other health problems that may be causing it.

When i want to have a few drinks I I found the following to help:

)stay away from light coloured drinks, white & rose wine, vodkas, vodka and cider mixers and alcopops, white rums and high strength light beers, especially champagnes

)anything with SULPHITES exasperate or make this problem happen quicker again white and rose wine and ciders.

MAIN CAUSE I THINK!! after 5 years of trying to eliminate reduce this.

)drinking high levels fo units too quickly shots or slammers.

)not drinking water throughout the day and eating food makes it lots worse.

Things that HELP or don't cause this problem

)RED wines  and dark spirits dont cause this to happen to me

)drinking slower and less

)drinking water between drinks

)not taking any meds such as anti depressants

hope this helps you all as it does for me

Im still looking for answers as to why this happens so if any one gets any more info please post and let me know

Thanks

PS I don't drink loads, only 3/4 drinks at a weekend so don't feel this is caused by over consumption and have stopped drinking completely for 2 years- so no alcoholic or stop drinking comments please- I have a right to do something that just causes me discomfort.  My liver, kidney and vitals have been checked by Dr who said they are all perfect, if not better for my age 35 So the Dr doesn't think this is causing me any real damage!! just an after note for all those haters/judger's out there

I am second generation American. Meaning that my parents were born here but theres were not. Both of their parents were natural born scotts. It is a scottish curse that whenever i drink even a little (though often it is alot) I experience red face, nose, ears, and even the scars located all over my body. Someone once tole me that it is just a sign of being a drunk. but i am only 26 years old. I do not consider myself a drunk (only drinking once or twice a month). i think genes have alot to do with this.

However, my problem is that I've been keen to drinking alcohol for over ten years, and this has recently become an issue in the past few months. I am 29 years of age, and, until now, I've never before encountered this situation. Also, added to the redness of the the face and neck, it also becomes somewhat difficult to breathe as if my throat were temporarily closing up. I've actually found the more i drink, the worse it becomes and if I happen to smoke a cigarette, then it really presents itself. Its hard to tell if its only certain types of alcohol are the reason for this phenomenon because one night, I'll have lets say, 5-6 drinks of Smirnoff vodka mixed with lemonade and I'll be fine. Then, during another night mabye a week later, I'll have the same type and amount of drink, and the symptoms will arise. I've talked to a friend about this and he brought up the idea that it might be simply because of getting older and the body going through different changes, but as I said, its only a thought. Vitamin B1, B2 deficieny could be a slight possibility, however I usually eat a balanced, mostly healthy diet of all the different food groups. I have no medical conditions other than terrible eyesight, and an undiagnosed condition of G.E.R.D. It would be nice to hear of a real and legitimate solution to this problem.

I really think wheat is an issue with the red faced while drinking. I drink beer with wheat; my face gets red. I eat a meal with wheat in it and then drink afterwards, my face gets red. Any other time I drink my face does NOT turn red. Try removing wheat from your diet before drinking and don't drink anything with wheat in it. It might help.

I have what appears to be a red rash on both sides of my neck, it has been there for several months and looks like a sun burn.  Does anyone else have same symptoms?

Hi Simon,

Did you ever get to the bottom of this? I'm also 29 and had this for the first time on the Friday and then Saturday just gone.

It's completely out of the blue and I've never noticed it before but I recall my cheeks getting really really pink and then I seemed to get a bit blotchy up towards my eye. Both nights I was drinking quite beer without any flare up and then after a few shots it seemed to get quite bad, and then ease off slightly but not go away completely.

Straaange.

Hi, i also have the same problem and is getting very annoying now. Im a 29 year old male and Ive been having this problem since i was 17. I thought i had found a cure to my problem just by drinking a few pints of water before going out but just yesterday I got the red face again. I went to a football game and all I had to drink was 5 pints of lager and a bottle of lager. I was fine up until the last pub after the game, I could feel myself getting hot and it gets slightly difficult to breathe, at this point my friend asked me what was wrong due to going bright red in my cheeks and forehead. As usual i got very paranoid thinking everyone was staring at me and went home. Its now come to a point where it is ruining my social life. Everytime i know im going out drinking its constantly on my mind that i am going to get this reaction. Im always going to the toilet and checking my face when im out. When i drink at home it doesnt happen as much and i could have up to 8 cans of lager on a weekend. Sometimes I can go out and and be fine all night. I just want to know if theres anything to prevent this from happening other than stopping drinking all together
