What is rheumatic fever? Is it a type of complication in persons with rheumatoid disease and arthritis? How serious it can be? My father suffers rheumatic pain in back and knees. He treats it with pain killers and has no complications. What person with arthritis should know about rheumatic fever?

Rheumatic fever is not what you think that it is. It usually affects children and is caused by streptococci. Rheumatic fever develops after throat infection caused by streps or scarlet fever. It affects joints and causes swelling and redness of them; I guess that’s why it was named rheumatic. It also involves heart, brain and skin.
