I went to see physician because of the RUQ pain I’ve been having for some time. I suffer from IBS for past two years, most of the time I am on therapy. My physician couldn’t make positive diagnose, so he sent me to the specialist who concluded that my RUQ pain provoked IBS. How common is that IBS cause RUQ pain or perhaps other difficult conditions?

A variety of disorders cause RUQ abdominal pain and one of the most common causes of RUQ abdominal pain and abdominal pain in general is irritable bowel syndrome. IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion. The diagnosis is made after a suggestive history, physical and unremarkable laboratory studies. I’ve been informed about it because of my wife’s condition. Her URQ pain was caused by peptic ulcer from which she suffers for years.
