Yesterday was day 6 after my tonsillectomy. I had tons of nauseau the day before so I was spitting all my saliva in order to appease my stomach. Big mistake. Apparently, this dried out my throat, causing my scab to dry out and come off prematurely on part of the left side. I was only bleeding a little, but the doc wanted to see me. Sure enough, there was a clot back there and he had to cauterize it, which hurt like hell, despite the "numbing spray". To be honest, I actually fainted because of the pain, and coupled with the fact that I had little to eat in 7 days and lost 15 pounds. So yesterday was the worst day of pain in my life.
The doc gave me 3 new meds (already on keflex and liquid hydro). He gave me a MOM type ulser med, an anti fungal lozange med for yeast on my tongue, and a steroid series of pills, which taste nasty b/c i've had to crush them and put them in pudding or whatever.
However, I woke up today, day 7 post op, feeling like a million bucks. I'm alert, pain is down to a 3, and I actually feel like opening cutains and maybe even leaving the house.
Don't spit out your saliva. Stay hydrated.
