I had banding done on several hemorrhoids one month ago. Before the procedure I was having intermittent bleeding with bowel movements.
This seemed to continue but had definitely improved up to about a week ago when bleeding started again.
I'm a homosexual and about a week ago I had anal sex and ever since I've had severe bleeding with bowel movements - worst ever. Sometimes about a glass full of blood. I'm very concerned as I'm going on holiday today and am worried I'm losing too much blood.
Could this be the scar left by the open wound that is bleeding? Should I be concerned about losing about 1/2 to one glass of blood a day? I'm going to get iron supplements in the airport but am still worried. Is there anything anyone can say as I won't be able to talk to surgeon before I go :(

That's seriously a lot of blood. The anal sex may have been done wrongly and tore up a big open wound. If you really can't see the surgeon for now, try some over-the-counter vaso-constrictor suppositories like Preparation H. Get them from any pharmacy. But you definitely should see the surgeon soon.

Thanks Lucius - Well - I managed the below on holidays by taking husk with lots of water (fybogel in UK). It made my bowel movements softer and I held off until I absolutely had to go to avoid straining. Bleeding was minimised to a few drops as a result. A few days later the bleeding stopped. The initial severe blood loss will take a month to replace told. But at least the bleeding has stopped. I assume the anal sex tore a healing wound from the banding - it had been 4 weeks since the banding when I'd had intercourse. Hopefully I'm on the mend.
