Wow, I'm 22 years old and i have dealt with this for 4 years now. Im glad i stumbled on this site because I thought i was crazy ( thats what everyone tells me ) . I agree with posts that i fear this is longterm, and the doctors are shrugging this off to be a ploy for someone to get painkillers. Ive dealt with the pain for 4 years with nothing to ease it, so no, i dont want the drs painkillers, i just want answers. My pain is severe in my hip, then will shoot down my left to my big toe in pulses of 5 seconds in between. some days its not as bad, others its unbelievable. i wish someone had answers.

I am having similar problems. Started with pain in my right hip. Usually after getting out of the car lasted a few min and went away. It started getting worse so I went to the doc. They did an MRI and said it was probably cysts in my ovaries so we did a pelvic and internal ultrasound and was told that I have multiple cysts in my left ovary and am just having like sympathetic pain in my right side. I started today getting sharp shooting pains in my right hip today. Ive also recently had those same pains in my lower back, and from my jaw to my ear, & headaches. I am 3 weeks late with my period, so I dont doubt the cysts but I am thinking there is something else going on as well. I also have gained weight and can not loose it no matter what I do which is very frusterating. Any thoughts?

I have exactly the same symptoms as described in the first post.
Shortish pulses of stabbing pain in the right hip, esp when sitting down for longer periods e.g. driving, but occasionally also when standing. I have started exercising again (jogging) and it seems to make no difference either way.
Does anyone know what this is? I doubt that it is a hernia, that is different more presistent less sporadic pain, nor is it kidney stones, wrong location. Could well be in the ball joint.

My niece kept being treated for her back because of severe pain in hip. Finally a doctor checked and found that the ball of her hip joint had been out of place probably for most if not all of her life. After surgery she is doing much better. She limps a little, but she no longer endures the pain she had before surgery.

I also have a sharp pain when I sit or get up from a sitting position. I also have a burning stabbing pain after I walk about 45 minutes. I notice a numbness on the upper outer thigh. It is also very sensitive to touch. It seems to be getting worse. I have lost about 30 # and is getting worse. Haven't been to the doc yet but need to go.

I am 38 and pregnant with my second child. Near the end of my first pregnancy I had a slight pain in my left hip (and was told that is normal in the third trimester especially). Well, I am only 11 weeks along with this pregnancy and I am in crippling pain on my left hip. I have been doing a lot of research and find that there is little that can be done because I am pregnant. Nobody wants to touch me. I spoke to my friend who is a licensed massage therapist and she recommended to get prenatal massages on that area especially.
I feel like there are hard little "balls" inside my left hip by the joint. My husband has been using wet heat compresses and then kneeding on that area with his fists everday for about a week now and that does give some temporary relief. I am only allowed to take Tylenol at this point in the pregnncy and that helps very little. I am going to go see my chiropractor friend next week for an adjustment on my pelvis and see if that helps. That could be all it is!
I have been looking into the hormone relaxin as a huge factor in my joints stretching and preparing for baby #2. I heard that your body sort of rushes in its preparation after you have had one baby because it knows that it will have to eventually so it anticipates what is coming from memory of the first pregnancy. That does make sense to me although it certainly doesn't offer me any pain relief. Considering that my son is only 11 months old... I was not pregnant that long ago... maybe that is a factor too.
It is hard to avoid this pain because it happens sometimes if I move this way and sometimes if I move that way. If the chiropractor and getting a prenatal massage next week do not work, I think I am going to go to an orthopedic doctor and not play around with this thing anymore. There just has to be some type of relief. I think is it busitis brought on by the pregnancy and hormones. I am not looking forward to this if it is going to last the entire pregnancy.
My husband has taken off work because my pain has been so bad that I cannot take care of myself leet alone my baby. I feel like a bad Mom, although there is nothing that I can do right now!!! I am thankful for this blog because even if I am in extreme pain... I am not alone. :'(

Amazing!
I am 26 and healthy male. I am feeling a very sharp pain in the right hip, right NOW. I came online to just check any related diagnosis and stumbled across this website and this thread.
For me, this pain comes every 5-6 weeks for 2-3 days. (I am experiencing this pain from last 2-3 years.) But it's really unbearable. :'(
I have to really lie in one position on bed. Moving right leg is really painful.
My doctor gave me ibuprofane and some muscle relaxant, which helps, but is not a permanent solution. :-(

This type of pain just started about 3 months ago, but I've been a chirpractor's dream since my late teens. Ibuprofen helps some, but that right hip and thigh joint - the most painful - is most painful when standing and turning a certain way. Any ideas?

Hello, just checking on this. I've had the same or similar pains, as have my girlfriend. After reading around, there is talk of Herpes as a possible cause. The pains are normally followed by sores according to what we read, but we'll have to check that. The sores do happen, just not sure of the timing. Check into it yourselves and please post if any of the other Herpes symptoms have appeared from any of you. Thanks.

I have been having this same pain for about a month now. to be honest it feels alot like when i was pregnant like around 7 months when my hips were spreading, but this hurts more. its becoming more frequent and i hate doctors so i have an appointment in the morning to see a chiropractor. Perhaos you guys should do the same, i know people think its bogus, but they can seriously help with things like this. most will give a consult for free and its not too expensive for the adjustment. typically between $40 and $80 which if you have ever paid a normal doctors bill they charge that just to have you talk to them for 10 minutes. god i hate doctors.

Sounds like good old trochantric bursitis. I started getting the same pains in my left hip about 6 years ago. Trochantric Bursitis happens when your body makes a bursa pack in your hip to lubricate the friction in the joint. The bursa pack lubricates the joint but also puts loads of pressure on nerves, muscles, and ligiments in your hip. I'm 30 years old and have been a barber since I was 20. Not exactly back breaking work, but I do work standing straight up 50 hours a week. I favor one side so friction occured on the opposite side. Tell your doctor you think its trochantric bursitis and see what he or she says. I think ultimatly perfect posture may be the only cure, wether its sitting on standing. All though a cortizone shot and a good draining of the bursa pack did the trick...for a while at least. Hope this helped.

I am a 21 year old female and am experiencing the same pain many of you are describing. My dad suggested that it may be a pinched nerve and my mom thought my hip may be dislocated. Last night I stretched and moved my hip until there was a big pop and since then the pain has started to alleviate and I can actually stand up without pain shooting through my hip. If it was a pinched nerve I'll have to wait for the inflammation to go down but I'm hoping this will be the solution to my pain. Maybe the same will work for you guys... I hope this is the real fix, although temporary relief isn't the worst that could happen.
