My wife had the same sharp, hot needle, electric pain, in her hip area. I had her try the stretching idea. She stood straight up, hands over her head, and leaned to both sides, intermittently, for around 10 minutes. The pain went away, She had only a few lesser pain events before she went to bed but was able to sleep through the night.

Sounds like my problem, have had this since 1971! It’s coming more often with time and nothing helps ease the pain except hospital visit, with dilaudid and toradal. As you can imagine that’s not practical, but have done it a couple times. I’m desperate for help, if you’ve found any please post.

I'm having a similar problem in my left hip. Sometimes it is completely gone. No hint of pain whatsoever, for long periods of time. But just like a light switch it starts, and becomes so painful I can barely walk. Lifting my leg when I get in my car is an act of courage :-) I've never been to a chiropractor before, but I also have severe back pain. My wife thinks they are related and is encouraging me to go to her chiropractor. I'll try it and report whether it helps or not.

Sounds a lot like my problem. Also had my bursa removed years ago, didn’t help. I’m 69 now, and the pains are happening almost daily last couple years. Can’t sit, stand or bend too much or too long, makes it flare up. All I can do is cry and try to bear the pain, it’s so excruciating. This all started in 1971 and has gotten progressively worse over the years. Stopped driving for a whole year because the pains started while I was driving and I almost drove into oncoming traffic. I can’t help but think this is nerve related but have been tested for so many things and nobody can find out what’s causing it. The stabbing pains are so severe when they hit they almost knock me off my feet. I just keep searching and praying that someday I’ll find an answer

I had sciatic nerve pain in my lower back before and the pain shot all the way down to my toes. My sciatic nerve in my back was being pinched. It's possible that your paid is also caused by a pinched sciatic nerve..but yours is being pinched lower down on your leg.
Not sure how to solve your problem..mine ruptured disc in my back swelling finally went down and the pain went away..about 5 weeks.
