I went to the doctor because I had felt a lump on my cervix. That doctor felt my belly and sent me to the ER because she thought I might have appendicitis. While I was at the ER, the doctor there wanted to do another pelvic exam on me just so she could see for herself.

She sent me to radiology for a pelvic ultrasound, which includes a transvaginal ultrasound. This was my first time ever having one done (since I'm only 19) so I had no idea how this is supposed to work. The woman who administered my transvaginal ultrasound inserted the wand up into my vagina, then went even further through my cervix and into my uterus. I had NO IDEA until today that the wand shouldn't go that far, and now I'm so upset. That ultrasound was really uncomfortable and even painful, as she was digging around trying to find my ovaries.

Since that ultrasound, I've had sharp, stabbing pains at random times on my ovaries, cervix, and uterus. I'm really upset because I'm currently seeing a doctor to determine whether or not I have endometriosis (which is what we thought was causing my pain) or even cysts on my ovaries. I had another transvaginal ultrasound today by a specialist and she only inserted the wand until it reached my cervix, so the wand was only in my vagina. This is what prompted me to research what is actually supposed to happen during this ultrasound, and now I'm worried that the technician at the ER did some serious damage to my lady parts.

I'm not sure what to do at this point. I'm planning on telling my GYNO about the incident at the ER when she calls to talk about my results from today.

Has anyone else had an experience like this? Or does anyone have any advice for me? I'm really worried that the ignorant technician at the ER did permanent damage!
