I stopped all alcohol 4 weeks ago,I used to have around 50 units/week, had problems with anxiety for 10 years and am on e-citalopram because of it, ( although I always new it was the beer, and tried to balance it)my withdrawal symptoms are worse at 4 weeks than 2 weeks! No energy, feeling sick, loose stools, palpatations, chest pain, dizzy spells, no appetite. I feel im getting nowhere. started taking a vitamin supplement today. I can handle withdrawl but at this level its taking over my life. Has anybody else suffered this level of withdrawal at 4 weeks,? I had been drinking this amount for 12 years.

Hello Stevie,

I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that after 12 years of drinking (even if it was only coffee) withdrawal symptoms are going to last. You are almost at the end here - the symptoms you are experiencing are in part caused by withdrawal, but some of them may simply be conditions you haven't noticed before. Stomach problems and chest pain might be linked to acid reflux - depending on have you experienced them before or only after you quit, you could get a temporary relief with over-the-counter antacid and probiotic.

However, what you say you're feeling - like you're not making any progress - that is the psychological part of the withdrawal. Only way you can battle through it is to engage in any physical activity or any hobby you have. You'll need to force yourself at first and any support from someone close to you would be more than welcome.

Hope things get better!

Wow-you are doing soooo great!!! Dear Lord please dont give in; they say learn to take it day by day; but for me it was more like taking it minute by minute, slowly hour by hour, finally to the point I am now, where I let myself be so proud, and now the thought occasionally enters my head, but I remind myself how terrible I felt back then drinking and how GREAT I feel now. If it helps you, remind yourself of how the alcohol made you 'honestly' feel and how your actions, at times, may have been less than 'honourable'. Keep reaching out, keep being proud, be honest, and keep yourself busy! All my wishes be sent to you!:-)
