I have something very similar. Mine became excruciating one time when I got on a plane. It doesn't feel like a muscle cramp, it feels like your blood is on fire.....? Like a fluid radiating pain that spreads from the center out.

wow, crazy how nearly everyone here has this too! no one I know has heard of it. I can't drink wine coolers, vodka, and some red wines. when I do, my shoulders tense up and they hurt like hell, and I sweat and have to go outside for fresh air. either that or lay in bed in the dark for awhile. it sucks for like 20 minutes and then I'm fine for the rest of the night. I've been drinking for the past four years and I've always had this problem. I know what I can drink and what I can't. Jagermeister is my go-to drink, definitely.

I get this sporadically and it happened to me last night. I have pin pointed the symptoms to Pre-mixed drinks and some bottled alcohol.
It is very intense and it usually lasts about 30 minutes. Last night I had drank a Bulmers Pear Cider out of a bottle. Funnily enough I had drunk Cider from the tap earlier in the evening and none of this had happened. Beer, Wine, Spirits are fine. But when I drink a Bourbon and Cola, Pre-Mixed sweet drinks and now bottled cider it happens.

I am 42 and have noticed this when I drink some, but not all, red wines.  I have had this happen sn was in my 20s and no one would ever know what I was talking about when I would bring it up!  Its an aches across the back of myshoulders and neck.  Noticaseverer not severe.  I find it fascinating that there are so many off us!

I have this too. I noticed it first when I was about 14. Now im 27. I thought this was only alcohol related until I drank hi-c from mcdonalds once. So I think it has to do with sugary drinks. Alcohol is usually involved though. It lasts for about 20 minutes, less if I stay completely still. Afterwards I feel great. I have no idea what it is

Funny you say it is tension being released too quickly. I dont know but I feel great once the paim subsides, even better than before it starts.

I get this to, only when I drink beers, ciders or engery drinks, it's a sharp heavy ache on my shoulders & shoulder blades & I usally have to go outside for a few minutes and usally it passes after about 10-15minutes. Any other drinks I am fine with I don't get this feeling, it's just with beers, cider and energy drinks

After a shot or two of hard liqueur, I get a sharp pain in the area of my left clavical. I feels like im going to have a heart attack or rupture an artery. Shortly after that, I sweat profusely. It doesn't seem to make any difference when or what or how I've eaten or drank beforehand. I had my gallbladder removed 25 years ago so it's not that. I rarely drink alcohol except about once or twice a year. Beer doesn't bother me at all. I've had it happen when I was type II diabetic and when I wasn't. With and without high blood pressure. The only other thing I have is Fibromyalgia. I'm not sure what effect alcohol has on that if any but, I'd like to know. I thought for years that I was the only one this happened to.

It's a bittersweet relief to find so many other people with this problem.  It started for me about 10 years ago, with a frozen drink. I gave up frozen drinks after the 2nd time.  Both times the pain in my back was so severe I had to be taken home. Since then, I've had it on occasion, maybe 5-6 times a year, from wine.  Pain in my back that radiates down my shoulders and arms. I sympathize with the person who was humiliated at the hospital. After a bad attack I saw a doctor, who had nothing to offer. His assistant said "So don't drink." That's not the point. The point is, it shouldn't be happening, there is a reason that it is, and you should be helping me (and others) figure out what that reason is. I'm going to try some of your solutions, such as drinking milk, or taking Omeprazole which was prescribed for me recently. Otherwise, I find relief by laying on my stomach with a heating pad on my back until it resolves. So frustrating, isn't it?

I thought I was the only person with this problem. I honestly thought I was going to google it and there be no results but apparently I was mistaken. I'm actually drinking a Mikes hard spiked strawberry pineapple punch right now (which is delicious) and the severe pain in my chest, shoulders, and head came about. I wish there were answers on why this happens but its goods to know I'm not the only one and that I'm not in any danger, lol.

This has happened to me for over 20 years.  I only really noticed it when I drank wine coolers (way back in the day lol).  My sister and I were talking years ago about this and she said it happens to her too.  A couple of months ago I noticed it happened when I drank Malibu Rum/Pineapple juice.  I mentioned this to my sister and she said, "Yep, she figured out years ago that it also happens to her with Rum.  My solution will be to just never drink rum again which is fine with me but I would still love to know what causes this.
