Shoulder cramps after drinks some types of alcohol

I have had this problem for ten years. And i have realized it happens when I drink alcohol with sugar. The pain is immense. In the right side of my neck, and down through the right side of my body. Apparently, my body cannot break down alcohol and sugar at the same time. I now drink vodka with unsweetened iced tea, and have had no problems since i stopped the sugar

I have this same problem with shoulder and neck pain with certain alcohols, I've noticed vodka in particular. However, my gallbladder has been removed after the birth of my first child due to the exact reason you described of women having gallbladder trouble after having kids. That was almost three years ago and I still suffer from the neck and shoulder pain when I drink on occasion. It is less frequent though. I'm interested if you did end up having gall stones or gallbladder removal?

I have the same problem usually after drinking wine coolers and sometimes wine.  The pain can be unbearable for several minutes and then all of a sudden it is gone.  I am 47, in good health and it has ben happening for years.  It doesn't happen with beer but I have stopped drinking anyway.

hi there, my names beki and i am 21 years old. i am having similar symptoms when consuming alcohol.

i get excruciating pain in my shoulders and top chest by my shoulder area. the pain feels like its deep down between my collar bone and shoulder itself. the pain last for about 45 minuites and it is that painful that it takes my breath away and i have to stop what ever i am doing. It is ruining my social life. it has been happening for around 2 months now. i am not a heavey drinker.

i have recently been to the doctors about being tired and having low energy. they did a blood test and it came back fine. they said theres nothing wrong.

i went again to a different doctors yesterday to tell them about my pain in my shoulders and they think it might be gastro/acid problems or heart burn. 

I find this hard to believe as i dont get acid reflux or any lower abdomain pain. i also have no pain in my chest around where my heart or oesophagus is.

the pain i get it also quite a cold sensation/pain, it is not warm like i imagine heartburn to be.

i am going to go back to the doctors again. what do you think i should ask for?

I have this, it starts up from time to time. It happens when I start taking shots of liquor. It's always in my right shoulder, feels like my collar bone is aching and can be mild or severe. Months may go by without feeling it, but out of nowhere it starts happening again. Have no idea what causes it, and have never been to the doctor for it. Probably just need to stop taking shots.

hi! dec 2013 i was diagnosed with hyperthyrodism. then last night i went out and drink. i ordered wine. when i woke up the next morning i notice my shoulders is in pain. i think its normal especially if we drink too much alcohol. and i suggest use quantumin plus. it helps:) did you still drink your meds?

Yes, I have had this same problem since I was 21 or so. My sister has the same issue. It seems to happen to me when I have a margarita or a drink with sour in it. I have found if I drink a lot of water when this pain starts to happen, it goes away quicker. Thirty years later, it turns out I have Gallbladder Disease. Could this be related or coincidence? We'll see if it still happens once I get my Gallbladder removed. It's a relief to know there are others out there ( besides my sister & myself) that have experienced this same issue after all these years.

It is that many of us are alergic to phosphates.

I just had this.  I drank a whiskey and coke and my shoulders, back, and neck ached as though I had been hit with a sledge hammer.  It doesn't do it with beer, gin, or vodka.  I had to go outside and sit in the cool air, inhaling deeply.  The pains lasted for 20-30 minutes.  What is it?  Apparently, I'm not the only one who suffers these symptoms

I Have the exact same problem. I have not been able to connect it to certain drink though. It happens randomly with alcohol intake. What I've found is that it's a sign of Hopkins lymphoma. From my research ive concluded that Epstein Barr Antibodies which is a precursor for Hopkins lymphoma may be floating in our circulatory system from a past mononucleosis Infection. Even if we did not know we had it. I know I have it before though. That's the only thing I can think of. Mind you I am not a doctor but I am a RN.

The last 2 times I drank beer I've had a terrible shoulder pain to where it hurts to move and even yawning hurts

I am 100% the same. Seems to be red wine that makes it worse, but for me the pain is extremely intense and last for about a half an hour to 45 minutes. I feel it in my shoulders and in my chest, which always freaks me out since the pain is so close to my heart. Idk why this happens, it's so weird. Wish more was known on this subject.

Rahh! I have exactly the same problem, started as soon as I turned 21.  the neck/shoulder tense/stiff/dull pain can come as quickly as after one sip. I have just been to the doctors and she told me that it's prbably my posture and refused to go into it further. I hate not knowing what is going on in my body. I'm really scared. Often I find if I do start drinking, I don't want to stop because when I do I feel so awful. so if anyone can help please let me know.  

I still have the pains but I don't have a gallbladder .
