I have a severe burning sensation throughout my chest, neck, and arms after drinking certain types of alcohol, especially Smirnoff Ice and hard iced tea. I don't know the exact cause, but I found that taking acid reflux medicine or even drugstore antacids relieved the symptoms. I've even been able to prevent it from happening by taking Ranitidine (Zantac) before drinking a pina colada from a restaurant that gave me the symptoms twice before.

Yes! I have the exact same problem! It’s very unpredictable! Mine doesn’t happen with wine or beer, but almost always cocktails. I can’t figure it out but it seems to happen with more sugary cocktails and also if I am drinking and eating. I usually have to completely finish my drink before I eat. It seems the going back and forth from food to drink makes it worse. I get an intense stomach cramp then a aching in my shoulders, I also get very hot and sweaty and have to wait for it to pass and then I feel fine. I have never been able to figure out what it is.

Happens to me with Mountain Dew and twisted tea pains in the middle right of my back and starts 10 minutes after I drink either one. And last 25-35 minutes and water helps me a bit or aleeve. The pains bad I run around and spin and stretch and nothing makes it stop I just have to ride it out.

I wonder if it is carbon dioxide poisoning almost like what happens when you come up from scuba diving to fast.

I get a similar thing, can drink most alcohol ok but one cider drink and a rum and cola ready mixed drink caused me to have the same symptoms you describe after only a couple of sips. The first time i felt dreadful but it passed in about twenty minutes after which I was fine.

This happens to me. I have been trying to find out the cause for ages. I get an aching pain in my shoulder all down my arm. It only seems to be with sugary cheap alcoholic drinks and some cocktails. I don’t ever experience it with beer or wine.

I actually have this problem with white wine, my collar bones hurt so bad that I have to stop drinking for like an hour or so. I’ve had food before and during it. I’ve actually experienced this right now. The pain is gone though but it feels like someone is digging out my collarbones. That’s the pain I feel.

Wow, me, too! I’m 49 now and until recently had not been experienced it since my late 20s. I remember clearly that I took a hard bike ride to a Mexican restaurant to enjoy margaritas with a friend. All of a sudden the shoulder pain and neck pain just kind of took over. There is some pain to the chest as well.It was so immediate and so intense and overwhelming I thought I was going to have to go to the hospital or something. I had some pretty unhealthy habits back then but I was also young and very active. I do recall Smirnoff malt liquor bottle beverages, kind of like wine coolers, causing the same problem at some point too. But I haven’t really had much of a beer or wine for the last decade, maybe some occasional shots of whiskey or something. Never a problem. But a couple weeks ago I bought some margarita mixer from Costco, which actually has slightly better ingredients The mainstream brands as it’s at least cane sugar and some juice in there, still loaded with sugar however… And on two separate afternoon occasions recently when I’ve had a margarita, I have suffered the same pain as I did back in my 20s. This recent pain is only half of what it was back in my 20s after That bike ride. Nonetheless I also didn’t work out today when it happened either. It’s strange and I wonder what it is… Margaritas for sure cause it and apparently those sugary and bottled higher alcohol beverages.
I, too, and really relieved that I’m not alone in this. It blows my mind that there doesn’t seem to be in the information out there on this. I mean seriously, what else is actually not on the Internet? My daughter is attending a I, too, and Braley relieved that I’m not alone in this. My daughter is acquiring her nutrition degree, I’m going to propose these comments to her and encourage her to take it to college. Though it’s not traditional medicine, they do look at the entire body and all the possible effects and impacts that could happen. I think that’s a good place to start!

Just so you know
I’ve had my gallbladder removed, due to stones, and I still have intense pain when I start drinking.

I also suffer from this pain and I find that smoking pot, even just a few tokes, not even really getting high, is the only thing I can do to stop the pain. It goes away in a few seconds and that really beats the 20-30 mins of excruciating pain. Just thought I’d throw that out there.

I don’t get the pain when I start drinking it’s the day after , left shoulder , collar bone , neck , all a dull sensation and has me rubbing my chest looking like I’m having heart pains and has people asking me if I’m alright , this pain last all day the day after drinking and it doesn’t matter what it is or how many I have , I’ve had to talk myself down and just breath to insure myself I’ll be ok, I’ve talked to doctors , had X-rays done , been to chiropractors, massage therapist you name it , it just won’t go away , sometimes when I’m not drinking and I seem to be in a stressful situation I start to get the same sensation but it passes quickly then cuz I have not had any alcohol. Someone please , if you find out what’s going on let me know what I can do , I know just stop drinking , I quit smoking after 35 years so one thing at a time I guess , I’m 49 and will be 50 this year and would love to find a cure by then
