I use to have a sore throat problem, it seemed like it lasted a whole year. I delt with it, sometimes it would get really bad and my throat would swell up and i would get scabs in the back of my thoat for a while then it would go away. Every time i went to the doctor they would did a lot of test and could never figure out what the real problem was. The medications they gave me would help but never got rid of the problem. Finally i got my tonsils out and that cured it for the longest time. Then i was working n getting black mold out of a house. We had to tear down the walls and ceilling panals. Even though i was wearing a mask and always kept the doors and windows open for ventalation i got really sick and got my first sore throat since my tonsilectomy. Since then my breathing problems have gotten a lot worse. The sore throat went away, stay away from black mold!

Had my sore throat for 7 weeks now, began with discomfort when swallowing feeling like a lump in my throat, but now it feels very sore and painful. My voice is horse and the soreness is worse if i talk alot. Been to the doctors 3 times, they say my throat looks ok and have just had a blood test for blood count, waiting for the results. Can't help but feel worried. :-(
Hope you guys get sorted.

I've had one for 7 months now myself. I've been tested for mono, strep, and hiv and came back negative on all of those. The doctor I went to recommended me to an ENT, but I can't go to the doctor anymore, because I don't have enough money and I don't have insurance. I think I perhaps might have figured out my dilema though. I was doin fine for a few months until I cleaned the inside of my ear out yesterday with a q-tip,(doctors told me not to do that). Now I wake up this morning with horrible pain. Next chance I get I'm cleaning it out with alchohol. Hopefully that will kill anything left.

Hello,
I have had a sore throat for more than 2 months along with other more severe symptoms (fatigue, dizziness, chills, day and night sweats, coughing and others). The sore throat has remained a constant, with intermittent pain mainly back of the lower right part of my larynx. I've already been to three different doctors to undergo tests and treatment. Six regular visits, one ER visit and three courses of anti-bacterial antibiotics later, I'm no better. I took a large risk by taking a leave from my job (with unpaid time included) in order to have tests run and find out what is wrong with me. Since none of the tests came back positive, my primary doctor (who is new for me) felt I just had a bronchitis and that this was the tail end. That makes no sense as I have had bronchitis a few times before without all of these wretched symptoms. This doctor said she saw no reason I couldn't go back to work and pushed me to go back (even before my lab results came back!). My wife felt I should trust the doctor against my better judgment. Now I regret trusting this doctor, and now I work each day in discomfort and pain. I got a second opinion from another doctor who said it must be a virus but that he had no idea which one it might be. I'm thinking I need to see if this thing is fungal. I'm hoping to figure something out as I need relief. So to any and all of you who are suffering out there, I'm with you. I wish for better health for all of you.

Like everyone posting here, my sore throat has been around for a long time, almost two months. I am nervous because I am a longtime smoker, and although I have cut way down, a little poison isn't much better than a lot. I have no insurance, and called my gp doctor asking for a rx for an antibiotic, and if it didn't work I would come see him. I was just there a couple months ago (yes, I see the connection - maybe the lab gave it to me) for checkup & blood work. $300. This time he prescribes antibiotic and it's $120. Says he suspects "Whooping Cough" & I'm a 54 year old male. I checked the web and I have none of the symptoms. Visit was $125. No effect from the antibiotics, so he prescribes a nasal spray. $60. Nothing from that either. Lab work including more blood work and that ghastly dual nasal swab, $325 - negative, of course. A total of $630 and I feel the same as when I started this savings-drain. I own my own business and, as with everyone else experiencing this man-made "recession", business has been horrible and I am scared about going out of business after 13 years. So, anyway, aside from crying about the abuse inflicted on uninsured sick people by the vacation-taking, three-home-owning, shuffle-them-thru medical profession, I STILL HAVE THIS DAMNED SORE THROAT and don't have any money to go to an ear-nose-throat man or anyone else. So I guess the bottom line is that I pray it isn't throat cancer because I'm too young to check out.

You can gargle with warm salt water to help reduce swelling and relieve discomfort. Some nonprescription throat lozenges, such as dry mouth products are safe and effective. Prevent dehydration, keep yourself hydrated enough. Fluids may help thin secretions and soothe an irritated throat. Hot fluids, such as tea or soup, may help decrease throat irritation.

I have had the same problem. The first time i went in for a sore throat, I had white nodes on my tonsils and a very high fever. They did usual tests for strep and what not and everything came back negative. They said it was just a run of the mill infection, and sent me home with a Z-pack. Two days after the Z-Pack ended, I started coughing. Then I spiked another high fever (102.5) and couldnt swallow. The fever had me on the couch in chills, and my whole body ached. I went back to the doctor, who tested for types of flu and strep again. He told me that everything came back negative, but that I had probably not used proper care in handwashing after my sore throat the first time. ((Which is bogas, because I'm slightly OCD about that kind of stuff....) Anyway, he put me on a stronger antibiotic and told me change toothbrushes again after a few days on it... yadda yadda yadda. So, its been about 5 days, and I still have a cough. It is still very painful to swallow, and my tonsils are still red. I'm in college so I can't miss anymore days, and I am tired of waking up sick every single morning. :/

I've had a sore throat for about 2 months now. Other than the soreness I don't feel ill in any other way. It's worse in the morning, probably because my throat is drier. It doesn't seem right to have something like this which doesn't go away so I went to the doctor 3 weeks ago and he did a few checks and told me it might go away over time He told me there was a possibility it was caused by acid reflux so he gave me a course of 28 tablets (1 per day) to see if I notice any improvement. 3 weeks in to this and no real change so looks like i'll be back for another visit. I do hope that something can be done about it because it isn't pleasant. I'll keep this site posted with any improvements.

I wish you guys luck. I have been dealing with a sore one for over a year now. Doctors say it is GERD. I also pull up the tonsil stones. I have had tons of tests and tried lots of meds. Nothing really works. Something I have found that kinda helps to mask the pain is Trident Orignal Flavor (Gotta chew two of them).

I have a sore throat for two months now. I only feel the pain every few hours and it doesn't last long. I was given antibiotics twice but the sore thraot didn't go away. I thought hard and I think now that it may be a food allergy! koz I've been eating a lot of mangos lately! I asked my doctor and he said if only your throat is sore and you don't have any other symptons then that could be it!
I will stop mangos and fresh juices for a while and see what happenes.

What might help soothe the pain is to drink warm fluids such as tea. Putting honey in your tea will also help. Cloves also help as well as tyme. They are natural herbs that help soothe pain. Also you can use cough drops. These will help generate siliva which will coat your throat. As for your condition I have no idea as to what it could be. Until you find out what is causing your discomfort, try to use these tips to make you more comfortabe. Best of luck trying to find out the problem.

I feel relieved, because I thought I was the only one with this problem. It's been 4 months and the sore throat only goes away for a day or so, then comes right back. I have no other symptoms except was very tired the first few weeks. Must be something going around. I was on antibiotics and it was somewhat better. The doctor didn't want to give them to me because my blood tests were perfect. While reading these posts, I remembered antibiotics kill off both the good and bad germs. So I just went to the fridge to take some probiotics. Maybe that will help (one can get them at health store) as they replenish the good bacteria killed off by the antibiotics. Good luck, all of you!
