I am 21 years old and I have had sex. I have recently noticed bumps on the lips of my vagina. Ever since I noticed them about 3 months ago they have not gone away and have not gotten worse. I am itching all the time.

What I have read about genital herpes is that they scab up and then go away and come back when you have an outbreak. This is not the case mine don't go away and they have stayed the same.

I thought I might have a yeast infection, so I went to my doctor and she gave me a perscription. I felt better for a while, but still the same bumps and itching? I do not have a discharge and it does not hurt when I pee. The itching tends to get worse when I am about to start my period. Do you think it sounds like an std?

Try corticosteroid cream to see if your bumps will go away. Since you have gone to see a doctor about this, and your doctor did not mention anything about std, it probably isn't .

I have to agree with hoseclamps, if your doctor did not mentioned anything about STD, that it probably isn't. If he had any doubts he would of tested you for STD. I think that you need to go back to a hospital and tell your doctor that the medication that he gave you are not helping. That he needs to give you something else. Please fill us in on your situation and how are you doing.

I went to my regular family doctor. I made an appointment to go to the gynecologist because I am still worried. I searched walmarts website for the cream and the result took me to Equate Hydrocortisone 1% cream intensive healing. It is a maximum strength cream is this ok to use?

If you went to your doctor, did she actually look at the bumps on your vagina, or did she just prescribe you a medication for your yeast infection? If she didn't actually take a look, that concerns me. If you have bumps on the lips of your vagina, it may not be herpes but genital warts, which persist and can be itchy. It sounds to me like you might want to get checked for HPV instead, because it sounds strongly to me like that's the case. Have you spoken to your doctor about it since?

I used the cream last night and the itching did go away. The bumps are still there. My family doctor did not look at the bumps she just prescribed me the medication. She made an apt. for me to go to the gynocologist.

I have looked at many pictures of genital warts and they just don't look the same. Does genital warts itch all the time or do you have outbreaks like genital herpes? Is it true that if you have a healthy immune system the body noramlly fights off the HPV virus and it never comes back?

No, unfortunately that is not the case at all. If you have HPV, even with a healthy immune system, you have HPV for the rest of your life. Warts also break out,a nd usually they have to be frozen off or removed somehow. They don't always itch but they can. HPV can and will occur, just like every other virus that you get, for the rest of your life depending on numerous factors. I'm glad to hear that the cream is working, but I am wondering why your doctor did not look at them.
