hello,
Long story short I have just had a salivary stone removed from the duct of my submandibular gland, just underneath my tongue. I was prescribed antibiotics for the infection. It has been 4 days now since the removal of this stone and I am still having my gland hurt and swell up every time I eat something! I have massaged it, I have applied heat compresses, I have been drinking more water, etc. The swelling went down to about a 1/3 of the size it was after the removal, but I'm wondering if the duct isn't still blocked. Does it usually take this long for the swelling and pain to subside? Is it just a lingering infection?? Has anyone else had a situation like this?
Please any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

I'm having the same problem as you discribe after having a salivary stone removed a week ago. How are you now and did you get any answers?
I look forward to hearing back as this is no fun!!

Folks - it took me four weeks to get back to being able to eat - just because the stone is gone - does not immediately take away the stone - I lost mine naturally although scheduled for surgery - as my Doctor said - I had a lot of infection build up - I could not talk I was so swollen - and put in hospital for drip anti-biotics - -

I wanted to post to help ease some anxiety that some of you might be feeling. I had a large stone removed from under my tongue in my submandibular gland duct. Surgery recovery was rough and the Dr had to use the basket as well as surgically remove the stone with an incision. At first I was afraid that something worse was going on post surgery. It still had a hard lump in the gland as well as being swollen and enlarging during eating. It seemed to have another stone or worse....so i thought. Rest assured, it took nearly 2 months for the gland to start functioning normally and I even had 4 months of the left side of my tongue numb due to bruising of the lingual nerve. Now when i eat, the gland no longer swells...at all. Saliva flows and I feel great. Give it time and you will feel better. Dr Michael Fritch in Indianapolis performed my surgery and was great. Hope this helps someone sleep better tonight.
