It is quite interesting to find so many people with this experience. I had this experience for the first time in 2010 and I was very much alarmed. I have a pretty organized lifestyle right down to my diet and I immediately suspected something in my diet was responsible for this strange phenomena. I ran a mental check through my regimen for the past month to figure out what had changed about my eating habit and I found out I had been consuming copious amounts of chicken meat in various forms. I immediately started abstaining from chicken meat and the buzzing sensation stopped as abruptly as it had began. I decided from then on to stay away from chicken meat and included it in my diet very sparingly. The incident never occurred again until three weeks ago.
My 12 yr old daughter moved in with me a year ago and she eats only chicken meat. So somehow chicken meat found its way back to my table and gradually took the place of beef and pork as our primary meat source. I cannot tell you how shocked I was one morning while brushing my teeth, to feel the strange buzzing in my lower region. For a moment I thought my phone was vibrating in my pockets. It took me a while to realize that the sensation was coming from around my rectum. I must confess that it took me a while to figure out what was going on, but once I did so the rest was easy. I immediately stopped the consumption of chicken totally and in a four days everything was back to normal.
I don't what it is about the chicken meat that causes this reaction in my system, but at least I know that chicken ( at least commercially processed chicken ) is not healthy for my system.
I hope my experience helps someone out there. :)

To anyone looking for an answer: try doing this. Lay down in a supine position and press and hold your filum terminale (see google images) check if it still buzzing/vibrating.. if this method works for you then either sched an mri test or wait until it will heal.. Sorry for my english :)

I think it is a flora imbalance in the gut too. My vibrating started after drinking kombucha every day for a week. I'd never had any digestive/gut problems ever before.
Now I've read that you all have the same problem, I'm going to ignore it and presume it will balance itself out eventually!

I'm amazed how many people are experiencing the same thing! I have very regular bowel movements, but a couple of months ago I began taking cod liver oil supplements to help my dry eye problem (and it has helped) and I now have more bowel movements every day.

This is crazy me too and mine started not even 48 hours ago. Went to emergency yesterday and they never heard of it and thought maybe an object was in me. Definitely not and I felt offended and have always felt that area to be exit only. I decided to go back today and get x-ray from yesterday for a second opinion plus clear up their theory. I find it is insane a MD did not give any medication or ways to deal with issue. Does it go away after awhile?

Hi. I did ask my doctor and she said it was probably a nerve trapped. I felt a bit nauseous too for a long time. 2 months later and I have developed lots of digestive problems that are getting worse. I’ve never had problems before...I’m 42. Having tests now so we shall see.

I had this for a couple of weeks but only felt it when lying in bed. It hasn’t happened for 2 months. Doctor guessed it was a nerve trapped.

Same here - very mild. I have been having "IT" for about 3 weeks. I'm posting because - it just so happens that it started the exact same day as I started to take a week long dose of antibiotics (amoxicillin). Go figure. I have NEVER had it before. I have had hemorrhoids in the past (not recently). I still get that sensation a few times a day even though I have stopped antibiotics - so, I am not certain that it is related.

This is the same for me. Just as no-one has reported a reply to what it is:

Been to the doctor and he is not worried.
I have IBS and its on and off. At times I don't even know I have IBS which is nice.
Hemroides - negative
Cancer - negative

The 2 things I am being tested on are - Gastritis and parasites.

See what he says is that my muscles are doing that vibrating in my gut. My bowel is angry and as I have been ill with an upset stomach after eating food with mustard in it, I am constipated now. My doc says that would be normal as my bowl was emptied and is now moving around. He has said however that a parasite irritation can cause my bowl to vibrate like that too, so I am being tested.

If you haven't had bowl movement for a while
If you don't have food alergies like me, it may be worth asking for a test for parasite in your gut.
1 pill later, you could be fine.

So nothing to worry about? I lift heavy weights, I drink coffee, and I have anxiety. For a moment, I went nuts and thought it might me an alien anal probe or something sci-fi.
