I am a 24 years old male, 5'9 and about 220. I have always been athletic and involved in sports, for the most part, and running has oddly been something that I found has always helped me and I actually seem to enjoy it, even though I was clearly not built for it haha.

Generally I jog 4-5 times a week at the gym on a treadmill. My times range from 40 mins to 80 mins, depending. The distances range from 4 miles to about 8.5 at a time. Most of the time when I am going for atleast 60 mins or more I do some type of interval jog for 20 fast paced incline walk for 5 or something like that. Other than about a month off at the start of it due to some wonderful shine splints this has gone on sense may, gradually increasing to were I am now.

About two weeks ago I started getting this cramping like sensation in my stomach. It wasnt on the side, and it didnt feel completely like a cramp. It was a little sharper and not as achy...It was more on the right front of my stomach around the front of my ribs. I had had cramps before and they never seemed to really bother me but this ended my jog rather quickly, I was about 45-50 mins in. They were starting to happen almost everytime I went and I also started getting them right below my bellybutton which was rather painful and extremely uncomfortable. They also seem to be starting much sooner, the last one started only 15 mins in and I ended up having to stop at about 20 mins. They generally go away within 10-15 mins of stopping my jogging. And that is the only time when it happens, not during normal day to day stuff or when I am lifting or anything like that.

The location sounds a lot like the gallbladder area but, I had mine removed over two years ago so it cant be that. I do still experience many issues with it (digestive) but I am not really sure if the two are related. I drink tons and tons of water and eat better than I ever have (nothing high in fat, nothing fried, no sweets or soda, no bread, ect.) I do eat a ton of grilled chicken, its part of 99% of the meals I eat but again, I am not sure what if any effect that can/would have.

Thanks to any and all advice anyone can offer, and if you have any questions please ask.

I used to get those pains as well. However, i did notice that, when you stated what you ate, it contained almost nothing that has either carbohydrates nor fats. The body breaks down both, but fat builds up in the body because carbs are easier to break down. Water is essential to break down the substances, but by itself, it CANNOT be used as a fuel. The stomach is a muscle, and since you have been working out (which means the carbs and fats are burned), and the body has nothing to feed on, the body actually begins to digest the muscles in your body, i.e. the stomach. So an increase of intake in carbs. should do the trick.

Good luck with your exercise regime.

Did you ever find out what this was? I'm having the exact same pain when running and what really piqued my interest is I also had my gallbladder out a few years ago.
