Helllo. Im new on this forum, but have some questions...Due to many issues, i.e. having 3 cycles a month, which was not corrected with synthetic hormones, which I couldnt tolerate anyways, large fibroid tumors and cysts...after 4 agonizing years of the above, my OB/GYN and I decided it was time for me to have a Sub Partial Hysterectomy, but since I cannot tolerate hormones, she retained the most viable ovary on my right side, and also my Cervix since my past pap smears had been normal..

My question is: since I still have my Cervix, do I still need to get a pap smear every year, and am I still at risk of getting Cervical Cancer, even though I have had my Uterus removed? My Dr. is very busy, and I havent seen her in a while, and I just got a letter in the mail from my medical provider stating it was time for my yearly exam, which includes my breasts....Im just confused a bit about the whole Cervix issue...One time I did have a Class 2 or 3 I believe, and had precancerous cells froze, but thats when I was maybe 21 years old, and now Im 48..Im wondering am I still at risk for those issues also? Anyways, thanks for reading this..This is my first time on a site like this, but want to take a proactive approach in my medical care...I also have other conditions, i.e. CFS/Fibromyalgia, so Im trying to take care of anything that will hinder my health..Thank you very much, and I look forward to your response as soon as possible..

Also, since I still have one ovary left, and I am still considered a "menstruating woman" even though I had a partial Hysterectomy, how will I know when I go into Menopause since I dont bleed anymore..Surely I must be in Perimenopause, which I am thinking was happening when I started cycling 3 times a month...Im just really confused..I would really like to get through Menopause sooner than later...Thank you... %-)

HI there, it sounds to me like you are probably at the point of perimenopause but I think the best way to figure out what's going on is to go to the gyno and get a formal diagnosis. You should talk to her about it and ask her about your cervix issue--it sounds like it is probably not a concern now but that would be best for her to determine. Can you let us know how it goes?
