The past 2 days, I thought it was just a stiff neck from sleeping incorrectly. However, the stiffness is now accompanied by additional pinching pain after swallowing solid food. Soft foods or soup do not bother me. I can actually feel the food passing down my throat and back in my upper neck vertabrae.

My son who is 12 yrs old describes having the same pain and in the same location when swallowing food. He says it feels like a mini explosion of nerves in the back of his neck. Took him to a general practitioner and he could not find anything wrong. He suggested chewing smaller pieces of food and taking tylenol prior to eating. Unfortunately this was not the answer. My son says the pain is bearable but is quite annoying being he experiences this daily. Again, the pain only occurs when swallowing food not liquids. If anyone knows the reason for this or has any feedback, it would be so appreciated!
