I had my surgery 6 days ago. I did not have any drainage in that my doctor used glue to close up the incision are and not stitched. I do have a hard "lump" under the incision site which is uncomfortable. The pain has subsided and I was off pain meds 2 days after surgery but the swelling in my lower abdomen is what really bothers me. You are not alone in this...it sucks.

My hubby had a AAA done on 27th April 2015, Appendix done on 1/1/2016 both open surgeriy, and got a hernia a size of a tennis ball maybe a big bigger near naval, had operation done 6th October 2016. He now has a hard lump when you touch where the repair was done a bit like a rock and some pain not taking any painkillers as it did nothing to help with it 5 days after he came home from the hernia repair, Why is it so hard when touch and he can feel it too. We are seen the surgeon only on the 3rd of November for the check up after leaving hospital is this normal will the hardness go away it is almost 20 days since operation done, seemed to have healed well on top, could this be fluid build up that is causing it . Any answers will be appreciated God Bless you all.

Hi Guys,
I also had an umbilical hernia removed 6 weeks ago. I am still experiencing swelling around the area now. Twice including last week l have had the area aspirated under local anesthetic twice to remove fluid built up in the area. It now seems to have come back a 3rd time. Surgeon said the body may be reacting to the mesh that he put in but not to worry as the swelling will reduce over time. I'm getting very frustrated with the healing process and now after reading your posts l'm not sure where to go.
I have been an active trail runner for 2 years running around 60-70km per week. This recovery is absolutely doing my head in.
Advice would be really appreciated.
Cheers.
