Hi Ladies.
I'd like to share my stroy, hoping to give you courage. I was relying on these forums to find answers for my many questions pre-op, so hopefully this will answer some of your questions.
I had a laparoscopic myomectmy 3 weeks ago, exactly. I had 3 incisiions, one at belly button and two near my biking line. They are relatively small and can barely be noticed already. One of them is healing slwower than the other two, but I thinks that's normal. At least, nothing looks odd so far.
I spent the first day post op in bed. I did not shower or do much. I did not weight myself. I wasn't very hungry but I forced myself to eat my BMR. I also made sure to take in 8 glasses of water. Swelly belly was THERE. Took pain meds, norco just once.
Day 2. I weighet myself and I was at my pre-op wieght. I should say that they removed 4 fibroids. The largest was 3 cm and the others smaller. So, I doubt they weight that much. I showered in the morning and I felt great, instantly. I countinued ot take pain meds, not the norco, just the stronger ibuprofen. I spent all day in bed. Swelly belly was still there. I could feel it moving with me every time I turned to the side. Gas was abudnant and painful. I did not go to the bathroom #2. Bul like I said, my weight was okay.
Day 3. Spent most of this day in bed, just to be safe. Lots of gas and swelly belly. I started weaning off the pain meds at this point (like I said, I only took Norco on day one post op and then I stopped). I mean, I started weaning off the stronger ibuprofen becasue the next day was a Saturday and I wanted to havea glass of wine or two. I think #2 happend this morning.
Day 4. Saturday. I ate some fun food. I drank some great wine. I went on a short walk around the neighbourhood. I made sure not to eat more than I burned however. I have a fitbit, and I track my food on fitness pal. So far, I had been spotting, but on this day I starting spotting heavy/light bleeding. Not sure if it was due to the fact that I started moving more, or because my period was starting (really close in time).
Day 5: I contnued to eat fun food and drink good wine. I went on a longer walk around the neighbourhood (about 2 miles). Heavy spotting continued.
Week 2 post op: I continued getting better. The heavy spotting continued all through this week (starting from fresh pink blod on day 4 - old blood toward the end of the week). I felt some cramps and took just one dose of the stronger ibu profen sporadically. Swelly belly disappeared almost completely during this week. I worked from home starting on Monday and I made sure to go on various walks throught the day. I could have gone in to work easily but I figured working form home was safer in terms of infections, etc.. This week, I walked so much, progressively each day, that I started burning the number of calories I was burning pre-op when I was exercising. My weight went below my pre-op weight during this week. I am not sure why, I made sure to eat all the calories I was burning, but no more (with the exception of the weekend, when I partied, eat and drank like a pig). I am sure I had a period this week, but I never saw it (becasue I was already spotting from the myo, i think i felt it though). I was also watching to eat the right, nutritious foods, full of antioxidants and anti inflamatories that would help my healing.
Week 3, business as usual. Started coming in to work. Went to my first pre-op. Everything looked okay, thought they can't check how you're healing inside yet. Got clearance to exercise as before as long as I don't work out the core or lift anything heavier than 10 lbs. My doc said that my period had already happend and there was not way to tell. So let's assume I had a period and it was super light. Toward the end of this week, I was seeing pre-ovulation symptoms, but never got an OPK+ to be 100% sure (which is normal, as in some months I don't catch it). I started exercising porgressively more and moree this week. I saw some spotting, however it was more normal cervical mucus, such as egcwm, etc stianed with blood. It wasn't just blood.
Week 4 (which is this week). Based on BBT and other symptoms I either ovulated this weekend or on Monday (had really strong cramps Sunday/Monday), tons of egwcm Saturday/Sunday. Yesterday, I completed a hight intesity spinning class. Everything feels normal, I just hope I am not developing hernia for moving/exercising too much, too quickly. There is no more spotting.
I have still a long way to go. We will check how well i've healed internally in about 6 -7 weeks. Everything has to look good in order to get clearance to TTC fand the there is the TTC process (been there, it's not easy for me. also had a miscarriage last year). But hey, I'm hopeful now and all and all I think the surgery was worth it.
I hope this helps/answers some of your questions.

My doctor told me it takes 6 months for the swelling to go down. I am almost 8 weeks out next Tuesday and still swell and feel pain when I do too much--more on my right side--assuming that's where more of the tumor was at. Hope that helps!

I have the same issue! Would be great if someone had some advice. Also my scar and wound area is still tender. My op was 5 months ago..

Yes! Pooch above belly button (looks funny) and still a hard lump. 6 weeks post op. I was swelling with any walking after surgery for about 4 weeks but that seems to get better.

I am 8.5 months post Myomectomy and still ahving the complications you described! The bulge over my incision line is hard and very painful/sensitive. My Dr. said that it could be wieght gain but I weigh a little less than pre-surgery. I was also cut toward my sternum, under the skin. I feel like I must be a wimp and imagining most of this. I do not want my body to be this way forever and I am so discouraged. Have you had any other progress? Has anyone had a similar experience so long after surgery?

Hi. I'm 8 months since my surgery. I don't look pregnant anymore but about 2 months ago I started to swell above my insicion as well. It also hurts a bit. I also find that when I go to the bathroom(#2) I have to hold my abdominal area down tight due to discomfort.

Hi Karen, I found your post from over a year ago, it says, but am just like you were, 11weeks post-op in a couple days and experiencing what you described.
Did you get any relief from the swollen belly or tenderness? I went from a steady 120 to 133 in the five weeks before surgery and haven’t lost anything despite a great diet and lots of exercise. I am preparing to reach out to my doctor as well and am surprised, and a little relieved, that it seems a common problem for many women. Thank you in advance if you see this somehow and are able to respond.
I sure hope you are better now!

Not sure if this is still going but I am now 5 months post abdominal myomectomy and still at swollen everyday. Mainly after sitting and standing for long periods due to work commitments. I have seen so many physicians who say it will go away. I am just praying it does soon as I am super uncomfortable most days and I get very tired and it starts to hurt by the afternoon. Anyone experienced this?
I am trying physio, acupuncture, general core strengthening and exercise. The only time it’s not swollen is when I wake up. Only a tiny bump but by the afternoon I could look extremely pregnant. It’s more of a hard stomach. I am not overweight so it’s hard to handle or carry.
Any advice would be appreciated if anyone has been in the same situation.
Thank you!

Hello.
A dear friend of mine had a similar experience. She had lymphedema, which is a condition where excess lymphatic fluid accumulates in the tissues, leading to swelling. It can occur after surgery that involves the removal of lymph nodes, such as a myomectomy.
Symptoms of lymphedema may include swelling, a feeling of heaviness or tightness in the affected area, and skin changes such as thickening or hardening.
If you suspect that you may have lymphedema, it's important to see a specialist who can diagnose and treat the condition.
In general, it's important to stay well-hydrated, eat a healthy diet, and avoid sitting or standing for long periods of time. If you're able to take breaks and move around throughout the day, this may help alleviate some of the discomfort.
Wearing compression stockings or other compression garments may also help to reduce swelling. If the swelling persists or worsens, it's important to discuss your concerns with your healthcare provider or surgeon to ensure that there are no underlying issues that need to be addressed.
