Hi:
I'm so sorry. Keep searching until you find a doctor that can answer your questions. Google "tongue numbness." This sounds like nerve damage to me. Don't settle for not having answers. I can't imagine this because I couldn't enjoy my food. That would be a crisis in my world. Someone out there has an answer. It may just take a little work to find that medical professional, but you can do it. Find a support person and go for it. I wish you luck and a speedy answer in the future. Let us know.

That sounds highly unusual but without details, it is a little hard to help you. You say that you have a swollen side of your tongue. Is it the entire side, or is it just one portion of the left side? Is it also painful? Are you able to eat and drink normally? Does it affect your speech? Do you have any other symptoms associated with it? I'm sorry to ask so many questions but it helps us try to help you. Thanks!

Hi Ladenole:
How are you doing now, since your post? Did the posted suggestions help you? I hope that you have found out something new. I know that you have seen many doctors, but my advice was to keep seeking out answers. Have you found the energy to do that? I know it's hard, but I know that you can do it with some support. Please let me know how your search is going. Don't forget...Don't give up. Please let me know.

still searching for answers and it has now been 6 years since the onset. it is the whole left side of tongue. it is always bigger but the size and pain level fluctuate but with no rhyme or reason. the right side hurts too bc it presses into my teeth all the time and is worse when the tongue swelling is more prominent. I have seen every kind of doctor and have even been to the mayo clinic in Jacksonville and they were no different than any other doc visits. they see me as healthy bc I am fit and my bloodwork is all great. I have joint aches that started my severely in last 2 years, I never reach rem sleep(as tested) so I am always exhausted. I have now had a lump sensation in my throat for 4 months. no it has never bothered my eating or drinking but occasionally gives me speech problems when it is more swollen and more irritated. it is always there and always has some level of pain but I am used to the lowest swelling and pain level at this point so it only bothers me when it is more inflamed. that is on and off...mostly on. docs just look at me dumb founded. I wanted to get on dr oz or the doctors so that maybe someone could see it and help me. bc it is always there, I never feel completely good. my good day would be miserable for the average person. I try to not give up but it is very hard.
