Mobile apps have proven to be effective tools in speech therapy for children. Speech therapists report that many children enjoy working with apps which are easily accessible enabling children to practice with their family in the safety of their own home.

According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders (NIDCD), approximately 80% of children between the ages of three and 17 have a disorder related to speech, voice, language, or swallowing.
Speech difficulties can be caused a wide range of disorders, such as cleft palate, stuttering, autism, and more.
In all of these situations, speech therapy can be a highly effective treatment to help these children learn to communicate more effectively.
Thanks to the technology many mobile apps for smartphones and tablets have shown the potential to greatly increase and speed up children's development, especially for parents who don't have the budget or time to bring their children to speech-language pathologists every day.
Unfortunately, a lot of these apps are made for iOS platform only, while speech therapy apps for Android are really rare.
Here, we have listed some of the best apps for children, their parents, and their speech therapists.

Silly Sentence Articulation App

Silly Sentence Articulation is an interactive app for iOS devices that features a collection of over 500 sound specific silly sentence questions (also known as absurdities) designed for speech-language pathologists to use with individuals who exhibit difficulty producing certain speech sounds.

Truth is that the silly sentence format provided in this app is unusual and it is a departure from traditional articulation drill work.
But this format helps children and teens develop problem-solving and decision-making skills in two ways. First, it helps them logically analyze information, thus applying common sense reasoning to communication.
Second, it helps them recognize absurdity as being a key component of humor, which assists in building intellectual growth and emotional balance.
As said, the app is available for iOS only for $4.99.

Children and teens using this app need to figure out which letter is missing before the timer runs out. The word puzzles provided in the app were designed for speech-language pathologists to use with individuals who exhibit difficulty producing the following speech sounds: S, Z, R, L, S/R/L Blends, SH, CH, and TH (like in the Silly Sentence Articulation app).
By using this app, individuals with speech difficulty can strengthen their attention, concentration, and pronunciation with the help of their speech-language pathologist.
