My 18 yr old brother has been diagnosed with a swollen spleen, he has had abdominal pain & blood in his urine off & on for almost a month. He was in a minor car accident about 1-2 weeks before he had blood in his urine. He first went to a clinic & was treated with antibiotics. After a week of still seeing blood in urine he went to his pcp who sent him for a ultra sound that showed swelling of the spleen & then had a CT scan that confirmed what the ultra sound showed, swelling. About 2 months prior to all of this he had a swollen lymph node in his neck & felt tired, his pcp treated him with antibiotics, but failed to do a blood test for mono. She said it would be unlikely that the spleen would still be swollen if he infact had mono. He is now waiting to see a urologist. my concern is that it has been going on so long & he still has pain "cramping" & blood in his urine, how threating is this to him? Is it most likely from the car accident, mono or both? Should I take him to the hospital? Please help, thank you

yes! Take him to the hospital and get a second opinion. Blood in the urine and swollen lymph nodes can be very serious. I am shocked that the physician has not followed up on these symptoms.
