Hi all, it gives me great relief to here, I am not alone. I am 42 and suffers from high blood pressure and I have notice the temple swelling a year ago. It recently started getting worse, which is why I "google" the subject, "temple swelling". I am wondering if the medication for HBP over the years, could have caused this. My temples seems to also swell while eating, which is also, very embarrassing. I will research more to see what could be causing this. Thanks for all the feed back posted. It really has helped me a lot. God Bless!

Hi all - I have the same problem over the last few months and it seems to be linked to the fact that I have had a bloated stomach, problems with my digestion and therefore congested sinuses (thik this is a food intolerance/allergy). I really think it is all linked somehow. Do any of you have blocked sinuses too?

I too have the swollen temples. I was surprised and relieved to see it's not just me. I have been an allergy sufferer for 15 years or so but have not been diagnosed with any high blood pressure. I am going to the doctor this week for the first time in 7-8 years so we'll see. Thanks all for posting similar condition. Misery does love company!!!

I have the same thing and the doctors I have gone to have never seen anything like it. It's nice to know that I'm not alone but I would love to know what it is and fix it so I can eat in public again.

For several years, my temples would swell occasionally. Over the last year, the left side has become "normal" again, but the right side has become worse. Several weeks ago, I noticed a large lump on my right temple in addition to the swelling. It's very tender. Now, when I bend over to tie my shoes or pick up something, I instantly feel my right temple area fill with fluid. The fluid and pressure runs from my temple down into my cheek. My right ear is now bothering me as well. My doctor said he believes there is "something" in the soft tissue or muscle causing the lump. I am going to a specialist and will probably have tests done. I am only 32 and have always had really good blood pressure, I don't take any muscle builders like creatinine, I have allergies but never any sinus problems. Overall, I am in pretty good health other than my temple. I am really scared about this. Has anyone had similar problems?

I have had this problem for a few years now. I actually searched the internet a long time ago, but found no information. I am so happy I have now found this site.
I have the swelling, like others here, when I chew things like nuts or chewing gum (hard or vigorous chewing). I get it in both temples. It is very annoying, I notice the swelling within less than a minute after I begin chewing, the swelling becomes VERY uncomfortable, I quit chewing because my temples feel as though they will explode, and it takes a couple of minutes or maybe about 5 minutes or so, to become comfortable again after I quit chewing.
I never had this problem when younger. I have never had high blood pressure. I have always had low blood pressure, maybe 110-104/68 or less. I have only once shown a blood pressure higher than 110, and since that one time, I was back to low blood pressure. I am 48.
I have had sinus problems for a few years, but never known allergies. I do have bloating, I think.
I am glad to find out others have it. It is quite an annoyance.

I noticed this problem for me for about the last six months or so.
It only happens when I chew hard food...or gum...
My temples feel like they are going to burst open...
I have been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia...which I have had for about 9 years..and I also have high cholesterol..I'm 44 years old...female..
I just figured this was another symtom of fibromyalgia...which I have alot of different symtoms coming and going...
I'm happy to hear from all the other postings that no one has found out anything serious related to this..
I guess "no news is good news"...

its nice to know that I'm not alone with this symptom. I really hope to find a remedy. I know this isn't normal. I have even been woken up at night very randomly just cuz its swelling and i hit it by accident. That is frustrating! If anyone reads this and knows what to do please help me out.

Thank you!

I wonder if it's because I changed my diet since starting work again during May of 2009. I drink lots of coffee which could be tending to the high blood pressure with extra blood pumping through and through.

I have had this problem for the last two days. I am happy I have now found this site.

I have the swelling, like others here, when I chew (eat hard or vigorous chewing). I get it in both temples. It is very annoying and disturbing. I notice the swelling within less than a minute after I begin chewing, the swelling becomes uncomfortable, I quit chewing because my temples feel as though they will explode, and it takes a couple of minutes or maybe about 5 minutes or so, to become comfortable again after I quit chewing.

I never had this problem when I was younger. I have never had high blood pressure. I have always had normal blood pressure, I'm 37.
I have had a defeaded septum my whole life obviously, but never known allergies. I do have bloating, I think. I did have high blood pressure last time i went to the Dr.

I am glad to find out others have it, in a way to share these stores. It is quite an annoyance. But I don't know what to do there are so many different things that people have said. So I'm going to the Dr. to see what he says. Maybe we are all turning into aliens because that is what I look like when I'm eating. Very very scary..

I have been searching for answers to temple swelling and found you.
Approximately four days ago my right temple has enlarged in a circle the size of a quarter. There is no pain, just the lump. I find small nick in the flesh just outside the eye. There are no eye symptoms, no ear symptoms, just the ugly lump. It isn't discolored.

I have this problem as well. Started about a year ago. I'ts only happened when I ate Doritos, almonds and I just ate peanut M&Ms and it happened. I know I do have to chew a little harder to eat those so I don't know if I've built up temple muscle or if it's an allergy.

Hey Everyone, just responding back with concerns of Swollen Temple, I Just ate Carmel Corn, a bag of it! and went directly to the washroom and notice a slight raise if you would on my left side! Well, here's my short story!
1 month ago I thought i had a migraine, with Nausea symptoms, I took Advil/Zantac for Weeks, finally going to A Hospital downtown, they treated me as a migraine, Iv'ed me with Toradal and something similar to Zantac, and Released me! No prescriptions, nothing.. I couldn't take it, so i went to my Family Doc, and he said open and close your mouth! then wider, asked if i was Stressed, I was, any dental changes, I said Yes, A mouth Guard I wore previous night before my first headache! So, as my dentist recommended I the day i received my mouth guard, (purpose being i grind my Teeth/Muscle Spasms!) I never wore it for months after till recently.! hope you found this useful. Oh.. and Robax Platinum was a over the counter recommended Muscle Relaxer to help ease
