Hi there... I have the same thing; I've been fighting a sinus infection and ear infection for quite a few weeks now. I went back today, still not feeling better and they've given me steroids now along with amoxicillian and I am finally starting to feel less pressure but the bump in my temple remains. When the Dr. looked at it today, she mentioned "edema". Nothing serious, kinda of a side effect of allergies, sinus infection, ear infection, etc... it appears. Googling edema right now trying to learn more. But my symptoms have been pretty much the same as what everyone is noting except I actually feel better when I chew. Such pains in my teeth, temple and neck and chewing actually helps a little and/or applying ice to the side of my head. I don't have high blood pressure but I do have alot of allergies and get migraine/sinus headaches in the temple area quite frequently. Although this is the first time the right temple has swollen (for 2+ weeks straight now) and hasn't reacted to medicine.

I just started having this problem a month ago. I am 28 and my left temple has been swollen and just today it has started hurting when I touch it. I am not sure if I should be worried or not.

My temples began swelling a few months ago when I chewed nuts or chips. It went away for a while.
Lately, I recently went to the doctor for severe allergy problems and he gave me prednisone.
Since then my temples have begun swelling again when chewing anything not just nuts or chips.
I feel that this is somehow tied to my constant allergy problems.
I never addressed my allergy problems with an Allergist until recently.

Interesting stuff!!! I have this same issue although I notice when I eat, especially cold stuff like icecream, it actually helps my head. My temple hurts so bad it sends horrible pain into my upper teeth and around my ear. My lymph nodes under my neck on the right side are always swollen as is the gland under my bottom jaw on the same side. My temple has a lump that is constantly swollen but it appears to get better & worse (more inflammed & less inflammed) for reasons unknown. Actually, the lump is behind my temple on the right side, between the top of the head & the ear but closer to the top of my ear. However when it's inflammed around the ear on all sides. I went to an ENT today actually... he said my ears are perfect. Dentist said it's not my teeth, only noted an issue with TMJ. I've had a CT scan of my sinuses and nothing was found. ENT has me on a nasal spray for allergies for 2 weeks and if I see no relief, he's advised to see a neurologist. Veramyst is the spray... REALLY hoping it helps!!!! I do have horrible allergies to seasonal junk (weeds, trees, grass, pollen), mold, mildew, mites & such. The only relief I've really found so far is Excederin for Migraines, but I really don't think I have migraines. The pain, as you've all said... is really just in this temple lump thing. Always the same spot, always. Additional pain just radiates from this spot. Steroid shots have helped me historically, but obviously not something you can nor should get weekly... haha!! Feedback from anyone on what else is working for them would be fantastic. Additionally, I have alot of issues with dizziness, especially getting up from a laid down position. Thanks everyone... hope we all get relief!!

I also have the swelling in the temples after eating. As all of you the swelling goes down after a few, but it becomes painful to chew. I am wondering if anyone has had their teeth worked on before. I had verneers on my four upper front teeth and was wondering if that might have caused it since it changed my bite. It was about five years ago I had the work done, and my bite is still changing.

i've been doing some research about this and it might be 'TMJ'. thats the "lock jaw". ask your dentist about it. some other people with the same conditions say that ice packs work. there dentist also can give medicine to lower the swelling. i hope this is the case and it works. good luck.

Hello im just a guest but i also suffer from the same problem. This is why I am reading about the topic, trying to find answers. It can be quite scary. For me its not so much about the appearance although my temples stick out about 1/2 inch, it's the pressure I feel in my head around the temple are. I don't want to have an aneurysm and die or something. I just wanted to respond to let everyone who believes its due to hypertention that it happens to me and I dont have high blood pressure at all. My blood pressure is usually like 110/70. I have noticed it started when I started eating high fiber foods. I would like to know if most people who get this has had bouts with headache, migrains or head pressure. I have gotten to the point that riding rides at theme parks causes to much strain and make me feel like I going to have an aneurysm, and I get a booming headache. I can get headache easy. Stress, light wght lifting (im a woman), anything that causes strain. Maybe some of you have this as a predisposition. Please share if you do

Hello its me just a guest again. The guest afraid of having an aneurysm. I had asked earlier if anyone who suffers from swollen temples that feel like they are going to explode when chewing had bouts with headaches as well to try to get down to the possible cause of this. But i also noticed someone mention they grind their teeth also. I have noticed that i clench my teeth without thinking about it. Anyone else with SET (swollen exploding temples):-) noticed they grind or clench their teeth?

I wore a headband and glasses at the same time and out of the clear blue I had a thundering headache. I lived through it but my face changed. Now my teeth shift , bulging and lump on top of my head, I even have an indentation along my head where the headband was. I notice that if I drop my shoulders and relax them it is like they are pulling on my head and then the lump goes down on top of my head but my temples swell and I get a headache like my skull is going to crack open. I know it is weird but wearing that tight headband and then the tight glasses actually cut off my blood supply to my forehead and eyes. I've had massive issues ever since then and yes, the doctors think I'm crazy. I have never had a headache in my life and I did want to vomit with it. I even notice that when I relax my shoulders , really drop them down that my stomach swells up. It's like all my muscles swell when gravity pulls down on them. Chewing hard candy starts it too at the temple. If I put glasses on because my vision is now blurry then I get the headache again. It is miserable. I look different and fell strange and the pain is not even measurable. I am 47 and hate doctors but find myself at a doctor or ambulance over and over because it is so awful. Doctors don't know anything. I trust surgeons but we need to speak up to the doctors. Everything cannot be fibromyalgia and anxiety. I injured myself and they do nothing. CT was done but my head had shifted and was not hurting at the time and they said I was fine. They took a bone scan and said it was fine. I ordered the discs themselves and not just the report and I looked at it on my computer. IT was far from FINE ! I lit up like a christmas tree. I told the doctor and now they are sending me to a neurosurgeon. I wonder why when I was so FINE. Start asking for your scans and not just the paper report.

I have brittle asthma and when I'm ill I have to take large doses of steroids - I've noticed that this swelling of my temples happens whenever I'm on steroids and chew anything - I've asked the doctor but they had no idea!

I have discoid lupus, (not systemic lupus). I began having the swelling of my temple areas
following eating. I do not believe it is facial muscle related at all. I believe it is
both glandular and circulatory in its origin. It is certainly an aggravation.
But nothing more.

HI there:) I've notice my right temple swelling a bit and I didn't know why. I have anxiety and was worried about a brain tumor or sometime as I've been getting headaches on my right side. The doctor said my headaches were because of migraines, but I forgot to ask him about my temple. I'll have to keep track of wether it swell more while I chew
