I have been tanning in the spring/summer months for the last 4-5 years of my life. This past week I started going to a new tanning salon where their level 1 bed is a level 3 bed anywhere else. The second day I went I was layin in the tanning bed and it all of a sudden felt like little needles poking into me, within just a couple seconds I had a red, itchy, burning, raised rash on my elbows, backs of my knees, shoulder blades, and tops of my thighs. I have never had this happen before. I am not gettin burnt in these beds, and i have tried using different lotions, no lotions, longer time, shorter time, and etc. Well I waited two days to go back and had the guy wipe the bed down with water in case it was the disinfectant. Well I tanned with no problems at all, but by the time I got home the rash was back. i waited 3 more days and went today and within 2 1/2 minutes it was back again. Im not sure what to do, and when I talked to my doctor I was told to stay out of the sun all together. (um thats what any doc would tell you) so I dont really know what to do. This rash comes back in the same place every time, and it itches so bad I have to put medicine on it. But when u itch it, it feels like ur sunburnt like crazy. Any suggestions would be awesome!

I also had this problem. During and after tanning, I sweat alot and got rashes in those areas. Very itchy but sting when you scratch. I had it on my bottom, heels of my feet, and chest. The tanning salon owner and my soc said it was sun poisoning and to just lower my time in the bed and wipe the sweat with a towel once in a while during tanning. The doc said where you sweat the most is where you will see the rashes appear.

I have been tanning off and on for years and never had this problem... The last 3 times I went tanning my arms from my elbows to my hands (only in this area) have been breaking out in this weird rash that itched like crazy but ends up going away after a couple of hours. I really doesn't look like any rash I've ever seen. I get these small whelps and bumps, and some are kinda long and skinny and some are small and round. The long skinny ones kinda look like I've been scratched or something. I have looked all over for what could be causing this and can't find anything.

we all have it but how do we heal it.

One way to heal it is ----- STOP DOING THAT!!
Why do you go somewhere to get bathed in rays that are known to cause cancer?
Would you pay to get sprayed with asbestos?

My friend just went to the tanning salon and when she came out she had red welts all over her body and said her body was burning so bad. She went back in to the tanning salon to show them and they told her it is from people using tingling cream and no matter how much they wipe the bed, it never fully gets the tingling cream off. My friend was so upset and had the welts for an hour and a half then they finally went away. I feel so bad for her because she was panicking and did not know where she got these welts from. She does not use any lotion or anything.

I've been tanning for over 10 years, and never had a problem until a few weeks ago. Now I get an itch bumpy rash all over my legs from the knee down. Drives me crazy!!! I have tried cleaning the beds with my own disinfectant, and water after... Ive tried the stand up bed, and I've tried 3 different lotions. After all that...I still got the rash. Today I went into a lay down bed and lathered up with bananna boat after sun extra moisturizing lotion and no other lotions, and have had no problems at all. I was researching, and it seems like dry skin, heat rash and bronzers were the only things in common with all the complaints. I figured I would try to knock out all 3 with this great after sun lotion from WalMart for $6.00!!! Try it out and let me know if it works for other people too!!!

I have the same issue.  Been tanning for years no problem.  Within the last month I started itching, thought is was the colder weather & dry skin.  I lotion a lot.  Maybe too much?  I called salon & she sd could be a reaction to cleaning solution.  Going to try cleaning the bed w/water after they use the solution to see if that helps/  Did you have better results once you did this?

Hey!
I have been tanning for several years and there are several different rashes you can get from the tanning bed. Larger itchy bumps are most likely going to be a heat rash. Heat rash begins with excessive perspiration, usually in a hot, humid environment. The perspiration damages cells on the surface of the skin, forming a barrier and trapping sweat beneath the skin, where it builds up, causing the characteristic bumps. As the bumps burst and sweat is released, you may feel the prickly, or stinging, sensation that gives this condition its common name.

Try asking the employees where you tan if they are aware that tingling lotions have chemicals that don't come up with regular cleansers. My butt and thighs started stinging/itching one day after tanning, went away after I showered, went again the next day, used the same bed, had the same reaction. I figured out that it was because a tingling lotion had been used and the bed wasn't cleaned with the right cleanser. Take a cold shower and buy some Yes To Cucumber Facial Wipes and wipe down those irratated areas.

it could be that your allergic to what they use to sanitize the tanning bed . wipe it down with a clean rag and it could stop it.
