I've been tanning for several years and have had this rash a few times..always on my upper back. I've always just assumed it was a heat rash. I looked up a few different things tonight and that's what I'm thinking it is. I worked at a tanning salon and we had several customers ask to have the bed with water before they used it due to being allergic to the cleaning solution but they would break out everywhere there body touched the tanning bed..not just in one certain area.

The only real trick is to stay cool while you tan and use benedryl. You can also use lotions to help with the itching. I'm going to my doctor to make sure its not something to worry about only because I have it everywhere on my body.if I hear of anything else useful I will post again.

Im having this right now!
I havent been tanning in about 3 months. went back for the first time 4 days ago (monday) by tuesday morning i woke up itchy and had to come home from work as it was unbearable! I had been regularly for 4 months prior to a break and never had this. The only thing that changed was that i changed beds to this UVA bed or something like that, apparently it doesnt burn you, just bronzes you (as i was told). So I went back on the wednesday, 7 minutes in the old bed i used to use and now, thursday, itchy!!!! I thought it was the bed but I went back to the salon and the guy there argued with me saying it is impossible it has anything to do with the bed. I tan really well but am pale through winter (as most people are) and grew up in australia and this is the first time anything like this has EVER happened to me.
Oatmeal baths are helping me loads. But i paid $140 for this months pass in this amazing "non harmful bed". Not sure what i should do.
Also try Glaxal Gel and aloe. should help soothe but re-apply all the time. whenever it starts itching.

The only place I get the rash is on my butt cheeks! its on the upper part of my butt and its only two dots.. it does go away after about 24 hours. But ive noticed that every time I go back in the tanning bed it comes back..so i started covering my butt and the rash went away. There are still two dots on my butt now and it looks like it scarred. Looks like ill just have to deal with a white butt!

I tanned for the first time about 6 weeks ago in a high-pressure bed. I had four sessions. This week, I developed a very itchy rash that has spread to only those areas that saw the light of the tanning bed. Keep in mind, it's 6 weeks later! I am now on a steroid regiment for the next few days. Considering the time factor, I wouldn't have blamed it on the bed lights.....but considering how it completely follows the areas that were tanned, what else could I blame it on? Never again!
