If the hymen is incompletely torn, or has heavier blood vessels in it, the first few times COULD produce some additional bleeding.
I wouldn't jump to any conclusions with this...either that he's being too rough, or that she can't have a hymen that is incompletely torn.
I would think that a doctor's exam might be in order.
Plus, she may know better just how close to her period she was.
