I had a argument this weekend and thought I would seek some input.

My theory is that if I had a magical elixir that contained all the viatamins, nutrients, minerals, calories and everything else required for the body to maintain itself in a one gram fluid that I drank once a day, I would eventually die.

The reason behind this is that I would not be adding enough mass to the system to maintain the production of blood cells, skin, hair and everything else the body produces. In other words, the body needs a certain amount of additional mass to continue to operate.

For this argument pretend water doesn't matter.

Am I right or wrong?

Hello,

First off 1 gram = 0.0353 ounces.  All the vitamins, minerals, protein, fat, carbohydrates and antioxidants take up much more space than that.  So yes you would die of starvation.  Think of the size of an average multivitamin which has no protein, carbs or fat.  Then think of the bulk of food you eat, how much space it takes up.  Yes, you would die.
