Hello, everyone. I joined recently because I honestly am not sure what to do anymore...
In November of 2009, one night, I had come down with a fever and noticed some soreness between my legs. I went to bed, thinking that I just had not adjusted to the cold weather, only to wake up in the middle of the night with my labia swollen.
What I had noticed was that the labia was swollen from bumps that were deep under the skin, that cannot be seen, but felt if you put pressure on them, for they are hard to the touch.
Before I continue, I'd like to give my history:
1. I am a virgin
2. I am overweight
3. I do not really masturbate (due to gender issues)
4. I have high levels of testosterone in my body (naturally)
5. I am of African American and Middle Eastern descent (meaning that I have grow a lot of hair that naturally grows in curly and thicker)
I immediately rushed to the gynecologist. She examined me and after doing a vaginal culture, she thought that I had some form of folliculitis. I disagreed with her, but I decided to go along with her treatment and take Keflex (specifically because I am allergic to penicillin and amoxicillin) to lower the fever. She also recommended that I should soak in warm water twice a day. I did this for a week and my fever and the swelling went down, however, what happened next, was that my skin had become itchy. I used Clobetasol to soothe the area. Only a couple of days of treatment, I noticed that the labia was becoming swollen again and the bumps were returning.
Because my doctor was on vacation, before she left, she told me that all of the tests came back negative, and she then recommended another week's dose of Keflex. I saw my pediatrician, who thought that I had developed this condition because of bad hygiene... but this I knew was not true because I regularly practiced good hygiene.
As soon as she returned, I went back to see her, but while I undressed, I noticed that I had suddenly developed a green discharge and the labia and thighs looked as if they had been burned. The doctor examined me once again, taking another vaginal culture, and said that I had had a bad reaction to the Keflex, and that other than that, she didn't know what I had, and would send me to a Vulvovaginal specialist. All tests came back negative.
I went to this Vulvovaginal specialist twice. He had examined the tissue (of both the labia and thighs), taken a couple of cultures, and blood tests (for immune related diseases), and besides noticing a higher amount of bacteria in the discharge (which would later lead to a minor yeast infection due to the antibiotics that would disappear within a day), everything came back negative. He told me to stop using any kind of soaps (no matter how hypoallergenic they were) and creams, and told me to just clean with cotton cloth and warm water. He told me that there was nothing he could do for me. It was truly... a mystery disease.
Recently, I got my first UTI and after a visit to the pediatrician, I have been taking Cefuroxime Axetil, which has greatly lowered the pain I had from the UTI, however, symptoms of the mystery disease (itchiness, internal bumps, and slightly odd smelling discharge) are returning.
I honestly don't know what to do anymore. I guess I feel that if I post here, someone will know what kind of specialist or even what kind of disease I have.

Hi honey! All that I kept thinking was Vaginitis! below is a link that I found for you

http://www.dermnet.org.nz/fungal/vaginal-candidiasis.html

I'm not realy allowed to put links - as MOST are just big ads! But this is pretty good! And also it mentions OTHER problems if your irritation isn't cured! Check out all the other parts to this page and see what you think!

Also I would REALLY like you to start taking Acidopholus OR the highest rate of Probiotics you can get! - Get them from your local health food store! When you say high testosterone! Do you have a lot of hair on your body - such a moustache etc.? And has this been proven by hormone tests? Usually women who have a higher rate of Testosterone have problems with their periods!

The other thing I would like you to do is soak in a warm bath of water and let the water just go over your thighs and pour in 4 cups of Epsom Salts and let the solution soak your area! Also EVERY time you go to the toilet, I want you to get a squirt bottle, fill it with VERY warm water, put about 2 - 3 tbs of hydrogen peroxide in it and rinse and then dab dry! You can put an antibacterial powder on your thighs just make sure NO talc gets inside your vagina! Use monistat creams on your labia an vulva! And use as much polysporin as possible! Also when you go to the health food store ask for an immune booster! And also eat as much probiotic yogurt as possible! SOME women even put this on there pubic area and inside the vagina! I know it sounds gross, but it contains pro bacteria - to eat the bad bacteria and candida! Also it is VERY soothing to the skin! Ingest garlic, and vinegar! So try and avoid anymore anitbiotics as you can OK?

Also I just have to say I am DISGUSTED that the doctor just assumed that because you are overweight you didn't clean!!!! What a load of you know what!!! I have gone through my ups and downs with weight - the good thing is I've never had to worry about my thighs, but I have a good girlfriend that did and she used to have the WORST rashes and infections from the rubbing of her thighs! So please don't worry OK? And try to protect your skin as much as possible! Use non scented cleansers and non soap cleanssers as with the same about your fabric cleaners don't use anything scented! Let me know how you make out OK? Good luck and health!

Thank you very much! I figure that the discharge and the itchiness was symptoms of this condition, however, my major concern is those internal bumps in the labia...

Anyhow, as an answer to the questions you asked:
I don't have a mustache or anything (I get my face and eyebrows waxed regularly, since I am quite vain), but I DO have a lot of body hair (which I shave once and a while in order to avoid getting ingrown hairs). The only problem I have with my period is that I have very bad cramps (that cause immobilization due to inflammation of joints), but I take 3 Advil, which seems to do the job. My period only comes every 28 days and lasts 3 days, so I would say the hormones are a perk! They aren't at a level where they can be dangerous to my health...
I also soak in warm water everyday with Aveeno oatmeal bath, since I found that Epsom salt, hydrogen peroxide, and even monostat is too harsh for my sensitive skin. I use Petroleum jelly to sooth the skin after bathing (because it has no preservatives, which I am also allergic to).
I also take Acidopholus everyday, drink organic grapefruit juice (high in vitamin C and other important vitamins and minerals), and eat foods that have garlic and vinegar (like garlic pickles or garlic bread) regularly...
It is true that because I naturally have a strong discharge and I am overweight, he assumed I was not taking care of myself, but I let it go.
Honestly, I just wish I knew what these mystery lumps were...
