Hello everyone,
While it is so comforting to know that I am not alone in my fight to find out what causes my son these awful symptoms, I am still at a loss...A loss of sleep, happiness, and I have feelings of helplessness. My two year old son also exhibits much of the same symptoms as other children throughout these posts. He has had a cough, mostly at night, for the last 6 months. He has reflux, and just had an endoscopy showing that he has acute gastritis, inflamation of stomach lining. He has had persistent ear infections, and he is on his 2nd set of ear tubes and had his adenoids (which I was told were "huge") removed two weeks ago. He is now on two doses of prevacid daily for his gastritis and reflux, I run a humidifyer at night, elevate his bed, he sleeps on a wedge, I dress his warm, he doesn't eat anything after 5pm, and so on, so on, and so on. He has been tested for allergies- negative...Yet still, his cough remains. He is sleep deprived, puffy eyed, cranky. What is left for me to do? My ped says that I just have to wait it out. Seriously?? Anyone else out there, what more can i do???

My 4-yr old also coughs at night, often until he vomits. Our Dr has recently started talking about asthma and has prescribed salbutamol inhalers but I'm no longer convinced that's the answer - the reason being that when recently visiting my parents I came across the 10th March 2012 edition of the BMJ (British Medical Journal, dad is a retired GP), which has a 7-page special on 'childhood coughs'. Whilst this article is aimed at doctors rather than parents I'd urge you all to read it, at the very least it'll help you to understand where your Dr is coming from - and it covers all the causes/treatments.
Seriously - read the article, could change your perspective (it did mine).
