I also want to mention we have removed cheese and all dairy products from our daughters diet, and she has dramatically improved.
Dairy products - including all milk products, milk, cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, kefir, ice-cream, etc. - are related to all kinds of diseases including cardiovascular diseases, autoimmune diseases, cancer, allergies, asthma, digestive diseases, thyroid problems, neurological diseases, etc. The list is unlimited and I wish I could include it here, but for the sake of space let's concentrate on why this is so.
Milk can cause problems in several ways:
through sensitivity to the protein casein which creates havoc in our bodies in a similar way that gluten from wheat and other grains does.
through milk allergies which can juxtapose with the previous problem.
through lactose intolerance.
through the food livestock eats which can have, among other things, toxic lectins from consumed grains or GMO foods. Livestock can have hormones, antibiotics, pesticides, infections, etc. also
through other problems as well. Look up Why-Milk-Is-So-Evil at SOTT.

I have a 4 years old and a 19 months and they both suffer from that long last couch especially my 4 years old and I also use the neubulizer , honey (sometimes I mix it with Extra virgin Olive oil until it makes like a paste) and cough meds, but something that helps get that mucus out and stop the drainage especially at night is the nasal cleansing and http://www.neilmed.com has a kid kit that really gets it out if the child cooperate...I let mine do it themselves because it's more "fun" to them!!

I would not suggest him taking an inhaler at that age. My doctor started giving me an inhaler for "Asthma" when I was around 3-4, and to be completely honest, my health is horrible now. I have reason to believe that the two are somewhat related. I believe that using one on such a young child will lower their immune system, and make it more difficult for him to fight of infection or diseases when he is older.
There are safer alternatives if he does in fact, have asthma.
Get a second opinion please.

Had the same problem, turned out to be worms. Coughing at night etc.... Doctor said oh its asthma, typical. Think he caught it from nursery, gave him some medication for worms and 2 days later they were in his poo.

Cut back on the cheese, and all dairy products. After some time when your child improves, introduce dairy back into the diet, but keep it to a minimum. Dairy is found in so many products geared towards our kids it really starts to add up, and I believe that's where the problem lye's. %)

Sorry to be short and sweet but get your kids off cows milk - cows milk is for cows and not designed for human consumption - it's as simple as that.

My daughter has now been prescribed the singular which i started last night as we have no choice but to try something else. Inhalers do not work. No more antibiotics now I told my doctor yesterday. We are at our wits end with this cough. Doctors can see nothing wrong with her. Have tried her off dairy for one week but can not get her to drink goats milk for me. 3 months now since this cough started. I would just love a solution. Does anyone know when the singular starts to work?

my 3.5yrs old daughter cough at night badly, threw up as well. I gave her honey, then made sure the upper chest area & the throat at night are warm (rule of thumb,as warm as the hand & feet) but not too warm to start sweating ,if it sweat u wipe and remove some clothing on the upper part only,so it become a bit cooler. That helps her a lot.especially if there`s no asthma. everyday 10ml cod liver oil & honey as well.

I agree with the earlier post to try non medication alternatives. It sounds like it could be bad allergies, my son also coughs at night all the time. Try vaccuming the childs room every day, making sure that their bedding is clean and free from dust, airing out the room during the day with a window when they are not in there, using a humidifier, even a little vicks on their chest at night will probably help a lot. he also may be allergic to something in his room, possibly bedding? or pajama material? you should try different materials for his sheets and clothes and see if anything improves.

Same thing with everyone else above as am writing this i have been up already since 3am my 4 yr old daughter is coughing every night for nearly 6 months i have never thought of seeing a doctor i just thought maybe its just one of those things, but now reading all this people have written am just relieved that am not alone so first am gonna try to take her off on dairy foods first especially milk, because milk has come up in almost every blog i have read so far and i give my daughter a glass of milk every night when she is going to bed, and i will also clean her room everyday. I will keep u posted if this works for me i will give it a month ,if it doesn't work then i will definitely going to see a doctor. Thank u everyone for all your opinions above u have given me an idea on when to start dealing with this problem i hope its gonna work, i cant wait for the day am gonna sleep the whole night without waking up every middle of the night.
