Tonsil stones, tonsil stones..TONSIL STONES. These are small yellowish food particles that get stuck in your tonsils after eating, causes disgusting bad breath and also really dry mouth, disgusting? I think so!! I am 17 years old and I have suffered from tonsil stones for over a year. They really bothered me, my confidence and my social life. So after months of wondering what they were, I finally decided to go to the doctors, who put me on antibiotics to see would they go away.. That failed! Every night I would get a torch and a cotton bud and look in the mirror and pick these disgusting stones out. Six months later, still battling with horrible tonsil stones, I decided to go back to the doctors who them referred me onto the ENT specialist (thank god). The ENT specialist said that it was a common problem but the only way to properly get rid of them was to get surgery-a tonsillectomy. I am such a baby when it comes to injections and this being my first surgery. I was quite scared! I decided to go through with the operation and it was scheduled later on that month. The day of the surgery came and I didn't really know what to expect. I heard that a tonsillectomy gets harder the older you get and I am considered an adult, so I knew it would be hard. I had my surgery last Monday and I am now on day 6 of my recovery. It isn't easy, and today has been the worst for me. I have been able to eat food in small amounts and slowly. I have lost 6pounds already because I haven't been able to eat much. I think ice pops really help and also it is really important to stay hydrated so drink plenty of water and take your medicine! I know it will be a hard recovery, but if it gets rid of those tonsil stones, it will be worth it!
