I am a 16 year old male who had a tonsillectomy and an adenoidectomy done on the same day. I am on day 5 counting the day of my surgery as day 1. The first 4 days weren't so bad I could just sleep all day and take the medicine every four hours. But now on day 5 I cant even eat or sleep. I feel acute pain in my ears and my tounge and entire throut hurt a lot. Does anyone know something I can do to help with the pain.

I am 16 as well. I just had the surgery Friday and today is Thursday. My pain meds do not help. Motrin does not help. No medicine helps at all. I haven't eaten anything really since Thursday. I ate a few bites of mashed potatoes yesterday but it hurt too bad. I attempted to eat macaroni two hours ago and that was probably the biggest mistake of my life. I went to the hospital today because I was in so much pain and they said my throat looks normal so they prescribed me anti inflammatory medicine which taste AWFUL. but NO medicine has helped me at all. I can't eat or drink or swallow anything at all and this is the worst pain of my life. My tongue hurts as well and my ears. I have a sharp pain in my neck on the left side. And to make everything worse I have a terrible cough. I do not talk because it hurts too bad but when I do it's very low and my voice is not the same. Yawning kills me. It hurts sooo bad. I seriously can't wait till all of this is over. I can't take this anymore. It's driving me insane. I'm so hungery but I would rather not eat anything due to the stinging it brings. I know this doesn't help answer any of your questions but at least you know your not alone. :) I wish you the very best.

No, no! You really shouldn't do that. It is enough that you felt adenoidectomy side effects, but to eat macaroni was really, really huge mistake. Once you are done with this surgery, you need to be prepared that you will feel a lot of pain and that you won't be able to eat properly as you were eating before, it doesn't matter how much you are hungry. The most important thing is to take more liquids and food that is pretty much liquid. Don't even try with cooked or fried food, you can only make your situation worse. Wait until you get better. And yes, your voice will be back.
