I am scheduled (right now anyway) to have a tonsillectomy next month but there are a few things....1. I absolutely do not have 2 weeks like everyone says I need, I actually only have 4 days and that is stretching it. I am a student who is about to graduate and start her career so I do want to get this done now while I am on my mom's insurance and while she will pay for it. The other thing is, I DO NOT like pain medicine, is it absolutely necessary or can I manage without it. I do not like being out of it or anything so I never take pain medicine, NEVER like for anything!
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks!

If you don't have the time or you have any doubts about it ---------- don't do it !
I assume this is elective surgery not a medical necessity.

It began as an elective surgery yes but I have been getting a cold, strep or tonsillitis every other week so the doctors are saying it needs to be done or else I will keep getting sick.

I got mine out 2 weeks ago, I would say you need 9 or 10 days. My worst day was the fifth day after surgery. I would not recomend doing it if you don have the time to be home, and you really need the painkillers if you would like to eat and drink, wich is very important, since a major issue with these surgeries are dehydration. If that happens the risk of bleeding goes up and you prophably end up ine the hospital with an IV. I don't like taking painkillers my self, but I really had to.
