I am a type 1 diabetic female that would like to know more about pregnancy with my diagnosis. Can I safely become pregnant and have a baby? What are the dangers? I would really like to have a baby someday, but I guess I could adopt if it is too dangerous for me to have one on my own. I am getting married in 6 months and I just have this on my mind lately.

You will be fine to carry a baby as a type 1 diabetic. You would use an insulin pump for your insulin needs for the duration of the pregnancy. Your doctor will watch you closely throughout the entire process to ensure you and the baby are stay healthy. Be rest assured that technology and medical science has come a long way since even 25 years ago to help babies survive after birth.

I had a pregnancy last year and I am type 1 diabetic. The medical professionals were awesome at the university clinic. They are up-to-date on the new things with neonatal and care for the baby during the whole pregnancy. They hooked me up to an insulin pump and it was nice not to worry about doing my injections since it was fixed so that it gave me the insulin I needed at certain times. I just had to make sure that I ate at the times I was supposed to eat. I did have morning sickness and I vomited quite a few times for a month or so. I just tried to eat or drink something afterwards to keep my glucose up. I checked my sugars to make sure they were at the right levels. I ended up with a beautiful baby boy and I couldn’t be happier. My husband and I are trying to get pregnant again. ;)
