I am not upright about nudity in social situation ( sex ), but I would freak out if a male nurse came Inyo my room.

If a patient pees or soils himself or needs a catheter briefs can be cut off in about 10 seconds flat they do not restrict access to the femoral artery and can be cut off after what needs to be done is done alcohal wipes will address any bacterial issues my undies WILL stay on and if it violates your "because I say so" or your oh so sacred ritualistic procedure, then that's just too damned bad with the horrendously obscene cost of yor services, you need to remember that you work for me and not the other way around I do have some say and rights as a patient and if you disregard my wishes and insist that the undies WILL come off, you can kiss my cotton encased butt goodbye any questions?

Good idea. I will do the same on consent form. I find nurses bossy, insensitive and condescending.

No way just because you did not stand up for self and put it down on consent form then you do have to and if you dont put no underwear removal no cathetar and no versad then the verbal means nothing they will just wait till your out and do it and put back on before u wake.

The doctors & surgical nurses DO NOT change their scrubs, underwear, socks or even surgical headgear between surgeries. They have many more germs on them from patients before than a patient has on them. NOBODY has the right to tell you to take EVERYTHING off nor do they have any right to remove underwear after the patient is out! Nor is there any need to place a catheter of any kind if the patient has been allowed to void just prior to surgery. To do this "just because" is perverted, uncalled for! Make SURE to write "NO URINARY CATHETER, NO UNDERWEAR REMOVAL" then ask afterward & get your records as EVERYTHING done (such as removal of underwear, gown, etc.) should be documented. But ASK everyone, including your doctor if your underwear & gown was left on & if a catheter was placed. If you wrote "NO CONSENT TO URINARY CATHETER and/or REMOVAL OF UNDERWEAR" on every page of consent (preferably in RED). Draw up paperwork for your doctor & EVERYONE that will have ANYTHING to do with your surgery to sign. Have them read it or read it to them. If anyone refuses, tell the doctor surgery is "off" because of it. They have sterile underwear now than can be ordered, taken to the hospital with you & show the nurse when you open the BRAND NEW pkg. Go to the bathroom, pee & put them on over your own clean or brand new underwear. DEFY them & tell them you have a power of atty that will enforce this & give their name (spouse, child, friend, atty., whomever) Ask the doctor & surgical team "Do you shower, change your underwear, socks, scrubs & headgear before every surgery?" Make them answer you in front of whomever will be your power of atty. Tell them "You're packing more germs into surgery than I will be or more than I have even now". NEVER, when the surgical nurse comes to get you, lie and say "yes" when she asks "Are you in your birthday suit under that gown?" Believe me she will check once you're out & shuck you right out of them. If she wants to argue with you tell her you will see your doctor BEFORE you go down for surgery & will tell him if this is the way it's going to be I'll just leave......& mean it!

No you should not have to take off underwear unless it affects that area if removed while under anerhestic seek legal action as they need permission from you first

no one needs to be catherized for operations under 2 hours unless the patient has a previous problem. My hubby woke up totally nude no sheet or anything to cover him and had been catherized for a 45 minute breast procedure. This is really disrespect to the patient and certainly does not help with their dignity. I am really pissed off.

there is no need to place a catheter if surgery is under 2 hours. I had surgery on both of my breast for cancer and was allowed to keep underwear on and no catheter. It is just a way for them to humiliate you more in a stressful situation.

that is BS. If the surgeon is in agreement and signs off on it you can. Just be sure it is noted on the consent form. If they do not agree find another surgeon

I will admit I have a lot of paranoia. After my surgery in 2017 and I was told I could keep my underwear on no problem. After what just happened to my husband being stripped naked, having a catheter for a 45 min procedure and waking up still naked in recovery. I am thinking now no way in hell will i ever be put to sleep for anything. They have absolutely no respect for the patient. I feel so bad for my hubby. He doesn't even care what they did but I feel like they violated him. The foley certainly was not necessary and wasn't told to him either. I only found out when insurance denied payment for a procedure that was not necessary. I called the hospital to tell them about the charge because there were several billing error. I told them he did not have a foley and they confirmed that he did. I think at the very least he should have been informed rather than them sneaking it in and out thinking he would never know.

I had breast cancer surgery and kept my panties on. Also with 2 hands surgery. I would have refused surgery if I could not have kept them on. My hubby had breast surgery and could not keep underwear on and woke up naked in recovery from No respect at all
