During all 3 pregnanies I have lost weight instead of gaining. However, the opposite seems to be the case in between pregnancies. Is there a pregnancy hormone or condition that might cause this?

Me too! With all four of my pregnancies I lost weight. I gained a lot as soon as I gave birth. Even though I was exercising and dieting like crazy. I do also have hypothyroid. But I believe that some hormone is causing my thyroid to work properly during my pregnancies, because I never have to take thyroid medications during my pregnancies.

I lost 40 pounds with my first and 60 with my second. If course I quickly gained it all back and then some after delivery. I have had my thyroid checked in the past, but dr said it was in the normal range. Now I am 40 and have other signs of thyroid issues and in the process of checking it again. I have believed for years now that my weightloss during pregnancy was a significant sign of an imbalance but no one has ever believed me. It was like the hormone changes during pregnancy aligned all that was out of alignment. I never felt better than when I was pregnant, even though the last was seven months of morning sickness all day long. I still felt better then, over the last 17 years.

Ok, so it is nice to know it is not just in my family! I lost over 8 lbs and was only pregnant for 15 days. We happened to be doing routine annual blood work including thyroid, which came back within normal range at 6 days past conception at 16 days I had gained 2 lbs back and we prepared for miscarriage, which blood work confirmed that afternoon. A week later we checked thyroid again and it is still in normal limits and similar to the first test...so not the thyroid according to blood tests. Any other ideas?
