Unpleasant Vaginal odor, could it be my IUD?

The discharge will keep happening. It's a good sign, my doc says it's just protective mucus and as long as that's going on its ok. But the smell I'm having the same problem :/ he's put me on Meds and it hasn't took care of it at all. So idk what to do. My smell gets worse from month to month and is starting to effect mine and my husbands sex life. But the cramping. If its generally to one side I've had the same problem and we did a intravaginal ultra sound and foun a. Cyst on the side that was causing cramping.

I had mine removed. I found lots of information on copper toxicity which can cause a lot of major problems. The smell is gone after my period (which smelled horrible) and it's been nearly a month. I am working to safely remove the toxic overload of copper in my system as it can damage major organs, aggravates an already sluggish thyroid and reduces adrenal function (according to several websites and my own face which now sports some nice bags I didn't have before). The swelling is going down and I am starting to look like myself again. Btw, within 3 weeks I am back down to my normal weight of 132 from a high of 142!! (And I was working out by running/hiking hills 2 hours every other day. I have since cut back my workouts and have lost the weight I've gained in the 6 months I've had the copper iud.

does anyone have any suggestions? having another child would be unbearable for me its overwhelming now, my chldren are 12 and 2. -i have to have something. i've taken BC pills before and both of my kids were conceived while i was on them, although i will admit that i probably got pregnant because i've been inconsistent at times. I cant take the chance with an injections or implanon, theyre too risky. i've had family members and close friends whose whole body changed while on injections and implanon. i cant afford any more weight gain-which has also been a problem with my mirena, along with acne, moodswings, and slight hair thinning. I dont know what to do. i'm quite sure but not definite that i dont want anymore children so tubal ligation is out. Can someone, anyone out there give me any helpful suggestions?????

wow i was beginning to think it was just me. yes i have a foul smell too. and i shower and wash myself many times a day. i have special soap and feinine powder and it just dosnt help at all. somtimes i am worried other ppl can smell it. its very embarresing! me and my man dont have much fun in the bedroom any more only on certian days the odor is not there as strong. i dont know what to do, i cant go on like this i feel so dirty. what should i doooo???

Yes. I definitely have this problem. I think it's because the tissue is unable to slough quickly and some of it remains trapped that needs to get out. I think. I dunno.

well well well seems my theory is indicative that this wonderful method of birth control can indeed be the cause of this symptom. I have had 3 swabs taken over the course of a year and a half and they have all come back negative for any STD's. The most recent swab came back positive for ureaplasma and urealyticum which is found in 70% of sexually active men and women and is part of the normal genital flora. I found that the only "cure" to this problem is using medications to treat yeast infections but after a while it comes back just as bad as it was before. I think that the IUD in combination with semen is the cause of the foul smell coming from the vagina. The IUD seems to react negatively with the ph of the semen. Seems, from all the previous posts, that removing it is the only way to obliterate this embarrassing problem. I do notice it more during my period as well. Although my period is very light, the consistency is more like a rusty looking liquid that smells an awful like a combination of metal and fish. Horrible to say the least. I was given a prescription for Doxycycline and both my partner and I have to use it for 10 days. If this doesn't help then it's time to seriously think about getting it removed. If the purpose of an iud is birth control, it would appear that this particular type works by making the vagina so repulsive that women don't want men near. Judging by the number of women with this "complaint".

Check with the doctor. As bad as it may sound...your husband could have cheated and capght something. Probably not but good to rule out everything. I'm considering taking mine out after 2 years bc of this c**p all of a sudden and I'm not sexually active.

I'm so glad I looked this up.. the smell is driving me insane and although Im extremely happy with not taking pills any longer etc.. I cant stand the way the smell is. I'm also very self conscience when around others and find myself overdoing it with the perfume.

Has anyone had this happen after REMOVAL of the mirena? I had the mirena in for 4.5 years with no problems at all, and for the week since I've had it removed I've been noticing this smell. It reminds me of the time I forgot about a tampon and it was there for ages (yuck yuck yuck) but not as strong. I was planning to have another mirena put in, but now I''m not so sure. Thanks for reassuring me I'm not the only one, though, ladies, and that I'm not dying of some awful vaginal disease!!!

I got my IUD last September and have been having this same problem. Makes it really awkward when having sex and we can both smell it. I never use to douche but I've been lately and the smell is still there.

Having a smelly vagina is normal, even if you don't have it for years, most women to get it eventually. I don't know what all these girls have said, but get the summers eve body wash that is made specifically for your vaginal area! It word wonders. Because normal body wash messes up your ph balance and makes it smell. Also if you buy the summers eve cleansing towelettes you can use them right before you have intercourse with your husband! Goodlyck!

Oh and the summers eve stuff is located in the aisle with the feminine products usually by the stuff for urinary infections. Not in the body wash aisle. I stood in target for 15 mins looking, refusing to ask a worker cause I was embarrassed lol.

So glad I found this. I am a young mother, I have had my mirena iud for 4 years and I have noticed a smell probably within the last 6 to 8 months. I don't have it all of the time, but I think I have it more around the time when I would have my period and then for a few days after.. I have not brought it up to my husband and it makes it really hard to be romantic and spontaneous with him when all I want to do is hop in the shower before we do anything. I cant really identify the smell... All i know is its foul and possibly a little fishy.. and I shower two times a day ! I dont use a ton of soap down there because I read that if you use to much soap down there is could lead to weird smells, i clean very thoroughly and it hasnt been up until recently that I thought it may be my iud. TMI - I recently was cleaning myself in the shower, inserted a finger just to thoroughly clean inside of my vagina and I had a thick white substance on my vagina walls that I could scrape off with my nails and it had that smell.. I cant tell if maybe the smell is just discharge that didnt come out of my body? I have had yeast infections before and I know it isnt that. There is no itching or discomfort that accompanies the smell..All I know is ever since I have had this iud there is definatley a difference in my discharge and smell....I dont want to buy special washes because I dont want to bring this issue upto my husband, Im a bit embarassed about it because I dont think he has noticed anything. I dont have insurance which is why I have stalled on getting this thing removed. I dont know what to do, and its driving me crazy ! Any inputs or opinions would be really appreciated !
