My story is a little different: I had my hysterectomy last year July. A couple of weeks ago I ended up in the hospital with left side flank pain, nausea and vomiting. CT scan showed I had hydronephosis of the left kidney. The urologist attempted to place a stent but completely occluded. I ended up with the nephrostomy tube. After a couple of weeks the completed a renal lasix scan and found out my kidney is not recovering only working at 5%. I am planned to have my kidney removed next week. The urologist is positive it is a result from my hysterectomy due to the placement of scar tissue. I also had a CT scan a couple of months prior to my hysterectomy where my kidneys are completely healthy. He believes that scar tissue over the span of the year has occluded my ureter and damaged my kidney. I was wondering if anyone else has gone thru this? thanks

Its been a year and a half since my botched hysterectomy. My right ureter was sewn shut and after 11 days, the suture was removed. i had a stent in my right kidney- but it popped out after 2 weeks and was never re-inserted. it was removed 2 weeks later.
so- now...here I am...in constant pain and when i urinate, it is always cloudy and has little bits and pieces of tissue (not toilet tissue) in it. I have even passed something that looks like a jelly fish, at least twice. For obvious reasons, I need to see a urogynecologist but most will not even speak to me without a referral of some kind. I live in a tiny town and it seems that the whole medical community has turned their back on me. I can't get get an appointment with anyone.
Is it possible that my kidney has quit working now?
as far as lawsuits....unless you lose a body part- you have no case.
painful chunky pisser- ca.

Unless you lose a kidney- you won't find a lawyer who will take your case.- I know I tried. It happened to me too. It was a year and a half ago, my right ureter sewn shut- 11 days later- surgery-stent-embarrassing catheters- all of that. As of right now- I am in extreme pain almost 24/7- worse than before the hysterectomy. I think it will eventually drive me completely insane...and i am not kidding. When I pee...it comes out with bits and pieces in it. Ive even passed something that looks like a jelleyfish. I don't think I will ever be able to have sex again- my finger won't even fit in there. and even that is very painful. i'm only 46 and my life will never be the same again. not much to look forward to anymore.

I had a second hyst. This time removing ovaries and cervix plus gallbladder. I was sent home with a low grade fever. I ended with over 104 temp. Back in the hospital a week later with blockage of the uraters due to a huge grapefruit cyst or something where my cervix was, they waited for it to ripen, and i was septic, and on antibiotics, I had a neuphrostomy tube from Jan. to March. I've had my severe pain in my back, kidney, abdomen. Problems urinating, continuous fluid retention, severe pain. My colon issues are making it worse too. Slow bm movement plus can't remove stool as it sits in pouches, pushing my sides out and vagina out.

Also, my ureters are flowing per the tests, it feels more like my kidney is damaged.

reading these posts is awful; it is actually shocking that so many women have experienced this complication from a hysterectomy. My ob/gyns never discussed any of these specific risks or complications.
I had a laparascopically-assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH) this past July. During the procedure, the drs damaged my right ureter. They also managed to perforate my bowels. No bowel prep had been done. So for days I had both urine and stool leaking into my abdominal cavity. Only after several days did they discover the damaged ureter; an emergency stent procedure failed. I was transferred to a larger hospital for a nephrostomy to save my right kidney. It was only at this larger hospital that medical staff knew something else was wrong, and further testing showed the perforation. I almost died. I had emergency abdominal surgery to repair the perforation and clean out my gut of infection. I was in the hospital for weeks. I now have a colostomy. My current drs hoped that I could have one big reversal surgery to repair the ureter and reverse the colostomy but unfortunately I can't. I am having the ureter repaired next week; I am both hopeful but terrified. The colostomy reversal will have to wait.
Hysterectomies are not routine. Surgery is never routine. It is so critical to ask about your doctors' experience and the particular risks involved and what kind of tests they will do before concluding the surgery to ensure that any damage is taken care of before they close you up.
I wish everyone the best with their recoveries. This has been nothing short of traumatic. It saddens me to see so many have had the same issues. This should not be happening in this day and age of medicine.

Really sorry to hear that you have been suffering from this complication. I am a doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine. I helped a lady who had the same condition with a herbal remedy last year. She had the hysterectomy surgery done in December 2012. This lady came to see me around mid of February 2013. Her liver and kidney functions were still abnormal at that time. We tried herbal treatment for about a month, and then, she went back to the hospital for a check, the damaged ureter was healed. The consultant said that the healing was surprisingly fast. But, then discovered that there was another hole in her urethra, The doctors didn't know there were two areas damaged, one in her ureter and the other one in her urethra at the beginning because the dye couldn't go into the bladder let alone urethra due to the damage in her ureter was so bad. It took us another month or so to heal the second damage. By the end of April 2013, the doctors cancelled her operation appointment for the ureter implantation. They checked her kidney, ureter and urethra again last July. Everything is fine. So, they discharged her. She has had no problem with any of the above organs ever since. If you would like further information on this treatment contact me.

I am going through the same thing and I agree that we trust these surgeons with our lives but the laws are in place to protect them. They even get paid for their negligence .
